as for comments on Legion history, I was there in the 60's so that's the "Real" Legion to me because it lasted until Crisis On Infinite Earths messed continuity up, thats around about 30 years. Everything since has been temporary and constantly re-booted, re-invented, re-interpreted. The TV series was better than the comics have been over the last 18 years or so, so that would be my second choice apart from the current Legion main comic, which is returning in spirit to where Crisis left off...

So wait, Brainiac 5's mom and dad were both called Brainiac 4? Also...What of Brainiac's 6-7 and 9-11? Have they not appeared yet in the comics?

It's... complicated. They keep rebooting the Legion of Super-Heroes comic - three times so far. There are actually three Brainiac 5s, all from different parallel universes.
The Brainiac 5 from the original Legion continuity had a father named Brainiac 4, who conceived and raised him normally. He was a good guy.
The Brainiac 5 from the first rebooted continuity (from the '90s) had a mother named Brainiac 4. Wikipedia says this about her:
"From her birth, she suffered from a lack of emotion - even abandoning her son at his birth in an attempt to find something emotionally stimulating. Living a variety of lives, from beggar woman to hero to gambler, she eventually becomes the leader of a terrorist group known as the Dark Circle, and finds something that caused her to feel emotion - sending an entire fleet to its death. Eventually, her son finds her - only to have Brainiac 4 try to kill him in the expectation that, if killing strangers caused her to feel good, killing her son will make her feel better. After being stopped, she is committed to an asylum."
So yeah, Legion history is messed up. o_0

So who's who in this pic? The only Brainiacs I'm really familiar with are Brainiac 1 and 5. I can guess that Number 8 is the on in the middle though.
