As I am from Hesse, I have thought to myself, why not make a greater Hesse (Not only Bavaria and Saxony can into big boi...) to counter them Prussians in Western Germany...

DESCRIPTION:

The Kingdom of Hesse is a constitutent state of the German Empire, and is the fourth-largest member state behind the Kingdom of Prussia, the Archduchy of Austria and the Kingdom of Bavaria.

BACKSTORY:

The Vienna Congress of 1815 ended in a different outcome, establishing a larger Hessian kingdom to create a buffer between Prussia and Austria. It consisted of all Hessian states, the Rhineland, the district of Wetzlar and large parts of Westphalia

During the Austro-Prussian War, Hesse sided with Austria against the Prussians, losing all of Westphalia but three districts, the Saarland and much of the Ruhr Area to Prussia but remaining rather strong inside the North German Confederation.

Following the unification of Germany in 1871, Hesse became one of the more dominant member states, often siding with Bavaria and the other South German states to limit Prussian domination inside the Empire.

Their position was strengthened in 1924, when Austria joined the Empire following the breakup of Austria-Hungary, realizing the old dream of a Greater Germany (WW1 was won by the Central Powers, that in this timeline included Imperial Russia rather than Italy, leading to Germany being Europe's strongest power to this day).

Nowadays, Hesse remains one of the wealthiest states inside the German Empire, having a strong economy with industrial centres in the northern part of Rhenish Hesse and in the Rhine-Main area, and being one of the so-called contributing states, meaning that Hesse, along with Bavaria, Baden, Austria and Württemberg, contribute some money to help other states in economic affairs.
