Stoick frequently makes mistakes as a father, be it in the novels, television show, or DreamWorks movies. He's said and done some pretty hurtful actions against Hiccup, and the disappointment radiating from him frequently prompts Hiccup to try to prove himself. He and Hiccup operate on completely separate mental worlds and struggle to relate to one another - or even listen to the other's perspective for half a minute. Nevertheless, despite all these shortcomings, Hiccup is one hundred percent the center of Stoick's heart. This scene from the HTTYD movie demonstrates this marvelously, and I knew I had to draw this powerful, incredible paternal love.

This drawing was quite an adventure for me in many manners (I actually spent time to do something of semi-decent quality for once, so woohoo!). First of all: STOICK'S HAIR. OH MY ODIN. Was I drawing a Wookie or a human being? Chewbacca would be jealous of Stoick's red locks! Typically I tire of drawing hair because it is motivically and texturally uninteresting, but I actually quite enjoyed coloring this mass of hair. How DreamWorks managed to create a character with so much hair and still look so great I have no idea whatsoever. Second note: Stoick's nose is completely and utterly adorable. Of course, the entire man is adorable, as I realized the more and more I drew him, but his nose especially infatuates me. It's a big round clown nose! It's like a tennis ball smacked on top of a face. It makes absolutely no sense whatever, but somehow it works and looks wonderful on him.

I could certainly go back through and nit-pick fix my artwork, but I'm happy enough with how it's turned out and thought I would post it! (photograph change might happen later when I have better sunlight) Comments, constructive criticism, and fandom squeals are all welcome. Thanks for viewing!
