Like your knowledge of the underside of history in New York City from 1866 to 1880 or so. In W. A. Swanberg's biography of Fisk (Jim Fisk: The Carreer of an Improbable Rascal), he did not mention Josie's later marriage to Mr. Reade, nor her death from the results of a fall. He did mention she was buried in Paris.
It was William Henry Vanderbilt who made the infamous quote, "The public be damned!" which was an out of context misquote. He was explaiining to reporters his duties as head of the Grand Central System, and a reporter asked (innocently enough) what he owed in his position to the pubic. Since Vanderbilt was talking about his position in the company the question was ridiculous - "The public be damned, it is what I owe the stockholders!!" is the full quote.
