Description So, yes, there's only so much revision one can take. After a while I decided to fiddle around a bit with a biro and some ideas in my head aaannnd...this came out. So, ... it's a thing. A dogdragondemonbunnybatbeast thing. And I quite like it ^^
I still have no idea what he is though And yes, I KNOW the anatomy is terrible, but I was really too tired to care at that point, and I was experimenting with a different style, so yes, it's not very realistic, is it? He looks sorta oriental to me for some reason, so I think I'll call him Shanghai. ^^

Done aged 16 in about 25 mins using a biro, a page and what was left of my brain. Enjoi ^^

Lol, I was merely stating the truth - I think your sketches are simply awesome and well-detailed! And I know I can't draw well using pencil, what more Biro since I keep smudging the lines. O.o

Hehe, aww...You needn't be so pessimistic lolz. You have great artistic talent and I can already tell you're pretty much a sweetheart to talk to!

Rock on and God bless!

Thankyou - and biro drawings work better if you work from left to right to avoid smudges

Lol, it's really not a problem - at least pessimists aren't easily disappointed - low expectations are often exceeded XD! And that's so sweet of you!

I will XD!

Haha, so true! Guess pessimism does have its perks.

And yes, I realized that biro drawings do work better that way, but my problem is that whenever I do a sketch it comes out rough. Lol.

Eh, guess it's one tidbit I have to work on. But I really admire your artwork. I shall continue browsing your gallery when I get back home after class. Hehe.

And you are a very nice person. So feel flattered because that's a genuine compliment!

Haha, yes. Come to the darkkkk sideeeeee!

Yes, they do - and aww, I'm sure it's fine If you want a tip, always fo gesture lines very lightly and from the CENTRE of your subject so that they'll be invisible once shaded over, instead of sketchlines outside your subject

I'm sure you'll get the hang of it soon And thankyou - I'd be honoured!

Thankyou! (I can be a pain in the ass at times though. or at least I think I am... lol, the only person I really seem to annoy is myself )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NyriaTheWingedWolf In reply to zephyrwolfen [2010-03-17 11:30:44 +0000 UTC]

LOL! Yes, I shall enter the dark side...heard you have cookies. Nyum nyum!

Hehe, thanks for the amazing tip! I did try sketching using a Biro today during my lecture and whatcha know - I find it easier to use than a pencil! But I guess the shading and stuff takes ton of practice. My anatomy is still off, but I'm slowly (and tiresomely) improving so I guess it's ok haha.

And thanks for the lovely encouragement! I do hope I'll get to be a pro someday like you...Eep.

Aww, I constantly annoy the crap outta myself at times. Especially when my brain tells me to do one thing and my body does another. Which might explain why I wind up in bushes or wrapped around metal poles so often...

Yesss....

You're very welcome - and see what I mean! I hardly ever do sketches in pencil anymore unless I intend to colour them Aww, you're anatomy is very good, at least compared to mine - haha, I never can get the latissimus dorsi or the quadriceps to look right! And I never really practiced, haha, I just sort of picked up my pen and started - glad to hear you're being more sensible XD!

You're very welcome - and "pro", haha, I've only really been drawing for one year, I'm 16 and I don't take art classes XD!

Haha, I know how you feel - except its my personality that annoys me - I don't like the person I am sometimes

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NyriaTheWingedWolf In reply to zephyrwolfen [2010-03-18 03:20:01 +0000 UTC]

Aww...I used to draw frequently when I was four until seventeen, but the moment I left Highschool I ditched drawing. And when I tried to re-enter the Arts, it was a big struggle because I forgot how to even draw a tail! But I started practicing a lot and got on DeviantArt, observe and admire photographed pictures of wolves and art pieces of other Artists on the site. If you'd seen the first drawing that I posted on devart (I took it down eons ago), even you'll shiver because it was hideous. But I guess I'm improving slowly, although I'm still dissatisfied with my anatomy. Haha, I think your quadriceps and latissimus dorsi are quite good. I seem to be having trouble drawing musculature of the back legs - especially the soleus for some reason. Meh, I'll keep observing. And keep having an eye out from great artist's such as yourself. Trust me, 16 is the perfect time to learn to do new things.

Haha, yeah, sometimes my personality self-annoys, but I've learn to tolerate myself and accept myself and my limitations, so I guess it isn't that big a problem. LOL.

zephyrwolfen In reply to NyriaTheWingedWolf [2010-03-18 17:27:22 +0000 UTC]

Until this year I never drew frequently I'm sure it wasn't that hideous at all - it probably just seems that way to you because you've improved so much from then
And really? I'm glad you think they look ok The annoying thing is that I've never actually been TAUGHT animal anatomy, so I've just sort of had to teach myself Haha, you just called me a great artist - it feels so WEIRD when people do that

I think we get used to anything that annoys us after a point, including ourselves

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NyriaTheWingedWolf In reply to zephyrwolfen [2010-03-19 11:21:12 +0000 UTC]

HAHA - Ooh, trust me it was baaaaadddd...I still cringe when I look at the scanned copies lurking in my D drive. And I guess I have improved quite a bit over the last year or so, but it took a lot of practice. I'm still trying to learn how to color and shade wolf fur - especially when a certain lighting is placed at a certain angle. Meep.

Haha, and your drawings are good. I didn't take Art class either - I just freelanced around and NEVER learned any form of Anatomy, unless you include the dreadful Human Anatomy subject they forced us Biomed students to take last semester. Yeesh.

Lol, and don't feel weird - feel honored and flattered! I hope I get to see you do a full-colored sketch someday because I'm sure it'll look awesome!

Heh, and yeah, I guess we 'acclimatize' to ourselves eventually.

Haha, you should see some of my old art - lol, there's one of a black and white horse in my scraps Haha, it's soooo awful XD!

And thankyou - I'd love to do human anatomy though, since I adore biology in any form and have an obsession with how things work Plus I can't draw humans

*dies due to extreme flattery*
By full-coloured sketch I mean a coloured pencil picture, and I'm working on one of a white dragon (an Ustkolar dragon to be precise, one of my own species) at the moment

Yes, either that or we just have to put up with it XD!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NyriaTheWingedWolf In reply to zephyrwolfen [2010-03-21 13:30:57 +0000 UTC]

LOL - Bet it still can't beat mine though. You'll faint when you see it - trust me on that one.

Haha, human anatomy isn't really easy...and I'm referring to actually studying the muscles, bones, nerves, vessels and arteries. It's a lot more challenging than I'd expected, but the pictures in my book was awesome to google at for hours. XD

I can't draw humans either, no matter how hard I'd tried. Ever since I was a kid I could never peg down human anatomy. Eeps. But at least I can somewhat sketch/draw an animal.

Ooh, white dragon! Must be awesome when it's done! I can't wait to see it!!! Hehe...what's an Ustkolar dragon actually? I know it's something you've created, but I'm curious...Is it like part of an element or something? Lolz.

Yeah, I eventually put up with myself too. Haha.

Haha, you'd be surprised Here it is - [link]

I never thought it would be easy, but I'm interested The most interesting stuff we've done so far is dissect a heart and a kidney - lol, I enjoyed it so much I didn't want to give my scalpel back XD!

Mine are God-awful, hence why I avoid any trace of human traits where I can XD! And my animals are... better than my humans. Still not good though XD!

Yes - white IRIDESCENT dragon - lol, no idea how to do iridescence though XD! And as for these dragons, they're just a race of fairly ordinary dragons - huge in size, with powerful arched necks and projecting upper teeth, a row of three-cusped armour plates on the underside of their neck and body, long tails with 6 spikes at the top and 6 spikes at the bottom, a slightly splayed reptilian stance, long mane of fur on the neck and near the end of the tail, large, broad wings, finger-like hands and powerful feet, both with long claws. Their body is one solid colour (although they can be iridescent) and their wing membranes and eyes are a different colour. They also have two horns on their head, which are always in the shape of the horns/antlers of terrestrial mammals - the one I'm drawing has markhor horns

Wow! That was actually quite good for 11 years old haha. Your anatomy was quite good for your age - I pray you never stumbled across any of the drawings I made when I was younger haha...

Ooh, heart and kidney eh? The only thing I've ever dissected is a frog, but I had the liberty of looking over some preserved human specimens not too long ago. Creepy but amazing at the same time.

Iridescent dragon? WOW! The way you described it makes me tingle with anticipation to see how you finish it! Sounds uber-cool = I like!

P.S. What are markhor horns exactly? Is it like the curly twisty ones some antelope seem to have?

Glad you think so XD!

And yes - my friend said that I looked like I was on drugs when I was dissecting the heart 'cause my eyes went all huge and I was hyper XD! I think I am possibly a little bit sick that way Still, it's fascinating!

Yes - except I have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER as to how to colour iridescent scales/iridescence - do you have any tips?
And it may be a while, since I'm rather overloaded atm...

And they're the horns belonging to an endangered spiral-horned mountain goat, like these guys here [link] [link]
Hope that helps!

NyriaTheWingedWolf In reply to zephyrwolfen [2010-03-23 17:07:35 +0000 UTC]

HAHA!!! I was most probably hyper when I was tearing into my frog as well - we basically disemboweled the poor little dude and messed around with his insides.

Dang, I wish I could help but I myself am trying to learn to do basic shading and coloring for simple thing such as fur...eeps. The only trick that I learnt through the other artists is to always do a lighter tone first before adding a darker color on top and repeat layer after layer carefully without putting too much strain on the pencil. So I guess for iridescent scales which are white, you could play around with some light colors like a fine lavendar shade with a little bit of blue highlights here and there and a generally whiteish-grayish undertone. I don't know how that might turn out or if it's what you're looking forward to doing, but that's the best suggestion I have. Eeps. :^^,:

Aw, the Markhor looks awesome! I was originally thinking if those were the types of horns you were insinuating - I can't wait to see your drawing! And don't rush on my account, just take your time and once you're done, post it up here so we can all see it!!!

And I'm sure your colouring is great - and that's what I've been doing so far ^^ Thankyou very much

And thankyou - I just hope it turns out ok XD! I certainly won't be rushing though - homework and exam overload

LOL!!! Then you shouldn't have seen me with my frog when I was 11...Because everyone said I looked so devious.

Aww...my coloring isn't fantastic and I'm trying to improve desperately, but thanks for the encouragement!

Eep. I don't know...But I always pictured those colors matching with a whitish background...You can always google for tips though. Some of the websites have very very helpful hints!

Lol, yes yes...Never rush an artpiece because when you force yourself to complete something and lack inspiration, chances are the piece you're working on won't exactly turn out the way you want. So don't rush on anyone's account - take your own time. I just can't wait though. ^^,

And yeah, the humidity would probably annoy me after a while, but at least your weather is predictable - in N.I, we have a saying "If you don't like the weather, wait half an hour. It will probably have changed by then"

Indeed it is

Aww, thankyou so much! I'm looking for reference photos now for the cliff he's standing on ^^
Lol, I'm also making a reference for the separate clans of my Krovendrakk species (don't know if you've seen/heard of them yet), and it's going to take a while

I've already made them actually : main species reference
spirit/ether form and "humanoid" form reference
I'm just working on yet another ref for them since they're divided into clans, so I'm showing clan comparisons ^^ And a little bit of their sociology ^^
