Description This is my second attempt, this time in bone. I think I'm getting the hang of it a bit more, and bone is easier to work.

UPDATE

As some of you may know, my partner was taken very ill in October 2008. The situation became quite serious, and in the end an emergency call was made and the paramedics arrived, and we discovered that had they been more than a few minutes later she would probably not be here anymore

To this end I gave this pendant to the paramedic who, in truth, saved her life.

To all paramedics, nurses, doctors and caregivers out there:

Kia kaha koutou. Ka nui te pai to mahi.

That's a nice triskellon you've made there, so what crowds were you kicking around with to pick that skill up? I've never learned to bone carve and I've been in NZ all my life lol

I was in Whitianga and I found a studio that lets you have a go - I forget the name, but it was near the harbour. I did it as a step to discovering my heritage.

Sounds neat ,knowing your heritage is always a good thing,my scottish family clan motto is "ne obliviscaris" which means never forget and I like to think it applies to that

I like these pieces you have done... I wonder if you have joined the Artisan Craft Club.. and whether you have perhaps already asked to have a collage of your bone and shell carvings made for club pages.. [link] will give you some idea of the presentations

you made that?

Zer05um In reply to Lovely-Rikku [2006-03-11 10:29:08 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. It was my first attempt at bone carving - the only other carving I've done previously is the paΓΊa shell pendant - [link] It's a shame I can't get a phot that shows the iridescance of teh shell.

Last week I made the triple-spiral piece for my wife [link]

Well... There's this place in Whitianga (pronounced Fitty-anger) where you can do bone carving, much as there's one in Riverton that does Paua-shell. There's also a place in Hokitika that lets you loose on jade (aka greenstone) but I haven't tried that yet.

Mater also did a rather splendid thing; ask her to show you when she gets back - it's a traditional Maori design.

When does she return to the washed out isle? i shall ask her..

Jade sounds interesting...
