I have been laughing at this for about 10 minutes. I fucking love this!

Yeah, he was bipedal, but would have looked really goofy and clumsy looking

Yup, a while ago, I made a sketch of a cartoony Spino walking awkwardly and trying not to fall, even though the real critter, while still not being a paragon of grace on land, probably never had such problems.

So spinosaurus wasn't a quadruped? What a shame, it was such an amazing, unique creature, but I guess it still is. Just not as cool.

''' Theropod arm couldn't possibly pronate onto ground '''
And
Spinosaurus arms weren't like gorilla arm's anatomy...

I'd rather compare it with a anteater or a pangolin

More likely to be CrocoPelican by both compared diet and lifestyle; not to mention Spinosaurus was a carnivore' not an extreme strict obligate piscivore\fish eater like Pangolin.

well, I was referring to the arms and the body posture

GreekRandomness In reply to SpinozillaRex [2015-11-17 00:28:51 +0000 UTC]
I believe it is because the arms could not have supported the weight; in fact, there was a scale problem with the Ibrahim Et Al find, where in the model they made, the proportions were different. When fixed, the arms went down to around the ankles, but didn't touch the ground.

YEah i know about that. but there was something else about the anatomy of the shoulders? like it couldn't rotate it's arms seperately ack and forth like other animals, kind of like how you can't bend your pinky finger without the other finger bending.

just curious, what people found that Spinosaurus was not only bipedal, but also hunted on large animals in packs before T-rex? Just being speculative.

There could be evidence for that. We just don't know yet.

I think that Spino was most likely like a hadrosaur in terms of posture, able to switch between a bipedal or quadrupedal stance whenever necessary.

Except that Theropods (not even Spinosaurids) were adapted to a quadrupedal posture... Sooo....

I doubt Spinosaurus could walk at all....
On land they might have been like loons or tropicbirds. Unable to be qadrupedal or bipedal.

How the heck is it gonna lay it's eggs then? Burying eggs on wet ground is going to drown the next generation before they can even hatch. Ornithodiran eggs are porous to allow the developing baby to breathe.

Didn't Sereno and Cau agree that the femur was unusually dense internally in Spinosaurus and apparently it had strong muscle attachment sites? Thus making walking possible right?

Well, I could find these:
paulsereno.uchicago.edu/discov…
"short hind legs with muscular thighs"
theropoda.blogspot.com/2015/01…
"Interesting about the femur Spinosaurus described by Ibrahim et al. (2014) is as short and robust compared to other large theropodi, and that the fourth femoral trochanter is placed more distally: this combination of characters indicates a femur capable of generating more power at the expense of speed."

Then, it would die pretty quickly, since seasonal droughts were probably a thing in Early Cretaceous North Africa.

Not only that actually, Spinosaurids were not only fishers (uh...) they were more generalists, we don't really have evidences of that for Spinosaurus itself but it safe to assume that it was also not so hyperspecialized that it couldn't go on land.

You don't have to be on alnd to be a badass predator. Mosasaurs? Sharks? Crocodilians? Leopard seals?
Spinosaurus is one of those types of predators.

ZeWqt In reply to acepredator [2015-10-14 02:12:01 +0000 UTC]
I don't get it... Did I said Spinosaurus wasn't a predator that deserved respect because it would be clumsy on land? Because yes, I think it was perfectly bipedal, but wasn't able to run or thing like this, but it was still a huge multiton predator with huge claws, so...
