This is my taxidermy rendition of Will's ravenstag which eerily pops up from time to time in NBC's Hannibal.
The materials I had used were an elk cape that I had dyed by hand, and plugged in various black rooster hackle and tail feathers.
The ravenstag in the show did have very different features, and with my creation, I decided to go with a more masculine look to the apparition, giving it a more powerful appearance.

Ah yes! My uncle is going to be back to his hometown soon, with a cargo behind him! I believe he could definitely help me with it! But is the Ravenstag actually that big that he requires a crate? My mother is a softie so i am only able to display him in my bedroom, i figured out the space is enough for a whitetail though. Do you have any picture of his size compared to a human's? (I'm not good in picturing 3 dimensional stuffs) i hope he is not too big, because if he is, i'm just going to sob in the corner then. Really. Sad.

I have been a huge fan of Hannibal Lector for many years now, and fell in love with the TV series as well as the Ravenstag, so to see it captivated and created so wonderfully, is well... breath taking. You did an amazing job with this

This stag is roughly 35x35x40 (inches)
A smaller elk/stag mount, and of course the sweeping pose makes it more compact. Perfect apartment/Small house size.
(by the way, I do miss your art. Do you have a Tumblr or something to follow?)

This is absolutely stunning. Now I wish I watched Hannibal so I could understand the reference, haha. The feathers are so perfectly incorporated into the elk's fur, and man, I never knew a black elk would look so fascinating.

Season one and two are on DVD. (I haven't found it on Netflix yet... but I am SURE it will happen with first season soon!)

I too, am surprised on how black-on-black worked out. Especially trying to lightly dye the ears and parts of the face so it wasn't just all one solid shade of black.

I really love when you do stuff like this, like the unicorn. I don't watch Hannibal, but this (and the unicorn) is something I would totally hang on my wall. These are amazing, and I love them. I wish I could do this, you went to a school for it right? I would love to make creations like this, but I was hoping to become a mechanical engineer, and I don't think I could spend so much time at a school for something I probably could only do as a hobby, cause I'd need to go to school to be a mechanical engineer. :/

I did go to a school for taxidermy. It was a one-year course. Learned everything from fish, to feathers, to mammals. Everything else was self-taught.
My next project to tackle is a sabertooth tiger, so keep a watch out for that one!

It's kinda hard to say what all was self taught.
I went to the school at age 18. Learned a lot. But over time, I kindof formulated my own ways of making things (try to make things easier, or if they were harder, the outcome looked better!)
