Edit: Gimp 2.8 has been released recently, and this tutorial was for the previous stable release, 2.6; most things will be the same, but a couple of things, eg pen dynamics settings, I'm still getting used to myself. Bear with me, I'll see if I can make a new tutorial soon.

Um, that little window thing didn't pop up for me...and when I played it, the second fame/layer thing well, the object I moved was there but a duplicate was there too.....

Zilly-The-Jellyfish In reply to rockred12 [2011-01-18 22:58:02 +0000 UTC]

which window? the layers dialogue? that should be listed under the "windows" drop-down list, which is along the same line of buttons as File and Edit...

did you make sure that next to each name of every layer/frame, (replace) is written? make sure that it has the brackets.

i really have no clue... oh, i know! what size is it, in bites? or m,aybe... no, that doesnt make a difference... talk to some admins at this point, is my advice. the people with links with a "^" before their names.

Ok so um...I'm up to the gradients part....and I don't understand how to do the background faded gradient exactly. I managed to find the "gradients" box by some kind of miricale. My mind just went blank, and no matter how many times I read the tutorial it doesn't make sense to me. Please hlep me again? Thanks.

Zilly-The-Jellyfish In reply to cutechong [2010-05-01 20:22:50 +0000 UTC]

okay, i think i didnt make that clear... you choose the two colours you want, background+foreground separately.
then you drag a line across the image: the starting point is the foreground colour, and the ending point the background. If you want the gradient colour-transparency, have the colour you want in the forground on your toolbox, and in the options below for the gradient there'll be a little image of the type of gradient you'll get.
click on it, and it'll have a list of other gradients. you select the one that goes to transparency.
in another option below, you select the shape: go for "radial".
then, depending on whether you want colour in a circle fading out or a transparent circle going to colour, you click [or don't click] "reverse" [or a little box next to it, which will have a tick in it. i'm not sure which.]
now experiment!

=]

feel free to ask anything else. i like to know where i need to add more detail.

Oool! Ok so that's it?! All done...wait! Why won't it let me post it? It's asking for a preview image and ....the only way to veiw it is go to download! Changed the size from 1000px width by 500px height down to 800px width by 400px height. Do you know why it won't let me post it as is and needs a preview image?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zilly-The-Jellyfish In reply to cutechong [2010-05-02 10:43:42 +0000 UTC]

well, you should have it at 100x50px, i only said start with 1000x500 so that it's easier to get in detail. try that first.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cutechong In reply to Zilly-The-Jellyfish [2010-05-02 16:33:44 +0000 UTC]

So shrink it down from 800x400px to 100x50px? Well I think I made the original size too big I think.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zilly-The-Jellyfish In reply to cutechong [2010-05-02 17:23:13 +0000 UTC]

it's good to start big and then shrink it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cutechong In reply to Zilly-The-Jellyfish [2010-05-03 02:28:22 +0000 UTC]

Ok...so should I try to shrink it down to 100x50px then? What if it's too squished?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zilly-The-Jellyfish In reply to cutechong [2010-05-03 11:32:36 +0000 UTC]

that depends... are you wishing for a stamp, group-sized avvie, or just an animation? because that's about the size you get if you do. if you want, save it as it is, and save the 100x50 as a copy [so like, add some random numbers to the second save as ^_^] then if you dont like it you still have the original. i do that a lot.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cutechong In reply to Zilly-The-Jellyfish [2010-05-04 04:52:58 +0000 UTC]

It WAS going to be a stamp but I don't like working with too much detail; making the outer edge work. My head can only take so much detail consentration these days. Not like I used to.

Ok I'll try to upload it to a size 100x50 to see if it works.

Zilly-The-Jellyfish In reply to cutechong [2010-05-04 15:22:13 +0000 UTC]

they have bases on da. if you wanted, you could just download one, add it to your image via "open as layer", and... oh, it gets more complicated from thereon. meh.

it should.

cutechong [2010-03-30 17:40:44 +0000 UTC]

Ok I'm back and I started to make my feather affect. Now I'm stumpted.

I got to the part where I open new 1000x500 then to the "new layer" and press transparency (yours says transparent) then press "ok". Done.

This is where I'm stuck. Where is the "brush dynamics" in Gimp? I haven't found it yet.

This probably sounds so beginner like to you but I'd like you to help. Plsease help me?

I'm going to save my work (so far an empty white box as one layer and a transparent layer).

STILL love this tutorial. ^^

Zilly-The-Jellyfish In reply to cutechong [2010-03-30 18:12:01 +0000 UTC]

Hey, I'm cool with questions!

So, in the toolbox, we have selected the brush, yes?

Below the tools in the toolbox, is a box of options. there, one should say "pressure sensitivity" or something like that. to the left of that is a little image, a plus sign, i think. click on it, so that it changes to a minus. underneath should appear a selection of 9 boxes, in a 3x3 arrangement. those are you selections. Click on what you want, and if your unsure, click whatever and experiment. this method always works!

You make me smile. have a virtual cookie.
