Description Finally finished....
after 250+ hours she is complete.
I guess it is normal that I started to speak to her, after all that time we spend together
The glitter on her mane is hard to see on the picture

I modified a 3D model made fav.me/d3k5wig so that I could make a papercraft out of it.

It is made out of 70 pages of 300 g/m2 paper, the paper was 32x45 cm

The finished model is 127 cm tall, that is 50 inches, or 4 feet 2 inches...

As I promised, you can download all 70 pages I did for this model, so you can do it yourself.
Download rar: www.dropbox.com/s/e00n5qzpk7xd…
Download zip:
www.dropbox.com/s/hlsjmt9f3hks…

To make it even easier for you to look up where every part belong, download the free "Pepakura Viewer" from www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en… and open this file www.dropbox.com/s/i7mg4miw0dhi… within this viewer, it helps a lot.
"....." are valley folds /
"-----" are montain folds /

It takes more time then skill... it took 250+ hours.
If you want to do it yourself, you can ask me for advice and I try to help you.

Holy crap... Did you use colored paper or did you paint this? What type of glue did you use to do this? It's absolutely amazing. Would printing it A4/A3 size make it harder to do?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Znegil In reply to anonymousnekodos [2013-07-08 00:47:01 +0000 UTC]

The paper was colored by accident, it should be black/white in the copyshop, but he printed it in color, so I got color for the b/w price...
but what you see is the acylic paint I put on at the end.
Printing it in A3 instead of SRA3 would make the finished model only about 15% smaller.
I think so things get harder, some easier when you make them smaller, but should be ok.
Use 300 g/m² paper if you can.
I used just normal paperglue.
Since that was my first model, I can give you now some tipps, that I found out while making Pinkie.
It is nice to have some sticky tape to fixate difficult things you glued together, so they cant move while get dry.
Think about where to begin and what parts you can reach easy at what time.
Paint Parts that will be hard to reach after connecting BEFORE you connect them.
At Stress-points in your model, like the tail-butt connection, use additional Layers of glue and paper in the inside of that connection.

Do you have a line less download?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Znegil In reply to myjamjar [2013-06-26 18:11:17 +0000 UTC]

No, but you can load the .pdo file, I provide in the description, into "pepakura designer" and you can change the output format and if lines should show or not.

THANKS can I somehow get the full size with a4 paper as well?

Znegil In reply to myjamjar [2013-06-26 20:21:26 +0000 UTC]

The same way, use pepakura designer, you can choose any output format and size for the finished model, here is a video I made on how to use it: [link]

How do I load the PDO into pepakura designer? I am having some trouble getting the file in.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Znegil In reply to myjamjar [2013-06-27 19:48:23 +0000 UTC]

it is just "open" in the "file" menu, then you choose the .pdo file.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

myjamjar In reply to Znegil [2013-06-28 06:35:55 +0000 UTC]

I mean, the pdo file isn't in there.

here it is: [link]

myjamjar In reply to Znegil [2013-06-28 19:56:58 +0000 UTC]

That/s the one I'm using, Do I need to pay for pepakura designer? to make it work?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Znegil In reply to myjamjar [2013-06-28 21:08:19 +0000 UTC]

Normally there should be only restictions on how to save some formats...
Well... ok, I made a lineless version for you, it is here: [link]
But I would strongly recommand to use "pepakura viewer" [link] (a free program) with the .pdo file, so you can see where every part belongs.

Znegil In reply to Dirtyhooves [2013-05-10 21:51:50 +0000 UTC]

Well, depends.
You could print my papers on A4 format instead of my SRA3 format,
this would make her a lot smaller.

what do u mean

Znegil In reply to Dirtyhooves [2013-05-12 02:41:00 +0000 UTC]

I could maybe reduce the numbers of faces of the model to a lower number and you could use pepakura afterwards to
get the model the size you want and the layout you want, here is a video on how to use pepakura: [link]

It is the paper of the night
paper can be suprisingly strong, if you use 300g/m² paper.

I want to try to make this but the strongest i can print is 200g/m²

Do you think that will work?

Znegil In reply to TheMahCake [2013-08-18 12:25:44 +0000 UTC]

I could, but copyshops have stronger paper they can print.

Znegil In reply to zeepaard10 [2013-04-28 22:08:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I make them myself, they are not that hard to make, you just need a LOT of time. Well Luna was kind of hard to make because of her wing, tiara and york... But Pinkie Pie is easier. You can see all thepapers you need for the models in the description of the finished models.
If you want to try, say it I give you some tips on how to start and pratice with someting more easy.

I've done some Halo pepakura before, but this... this is amazing! Thank you so much for your work and my only question is where in the piece did you start?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Znegil In reply to spieagentl [2013-02-27 21:14:00 +0000 UTC]

-shoes (you maybe want to put additional paper and glue on the inside to make them stronger)
-feet
-belly (to connect the feet)
-butt
-tail (use additional layers of paper and glue to make the butt-tail connection stronger)
-start the wings on the body (additional layers of paper on the connection here too, that part has to
withstand the most force, it was only my third model and I did not use additional layers, instead I used foam later [link] )
-close her back
-start her neck
-build the yoke (paint it and her neck NOW if you want to paint the model) and put it around her neck
-now do the wings completly
after going crazy because of the complex wings...
-head
-mane
-horn
-tiara

Oh my goodness thank you so much for your replies. I really want to push forward with this project but I do have one more request. I plan to get everything printed out at a Fedex Kinko's (I live in the US) and well they don't accept BMP files to print as well as the PDO since it requires Pepakura to view. Do you think you can convert them to a PDF file for me? I spent about one and a half hours trying to do it myself but the end product changes the ratios of the different pieces or some of the image gets cut off.
