Description Ienuqah (eye-NOOK-uh) was the second character I ever made upon entering the IZ fandom. She is lesser known than Shardken but is nevertheless absolutely crucial to thoroughly understand Shardken's backstory.

Some basic info: Ienuqah is 130 pounds and 5 feet 6 inches... precisely two inches taller than Nishkip, much to his dismay. Her arms are rather burly, but she lacks significant leg strength and thus cannot run very fast at all. Ienuqah is by no means a fighter; in the basic military training every Irken smeet receives upon birth, her marks left much to be desired and thus caused her to promptly be assigned to a career in the science fields. However, this turned out to be a very fateful turn of events; Ienuqah is a geneticist/mechanic, and a prominent one at that. She specializes in bioengineering and is frequently asked to review the work of subordinate and blooming young scientists. As such, she is very highly respected as a researcher, engineer, and high-ranking officer in the Irken Empire.

Personality-wise, Ienuqah is very serious, calm, and straightforward. She does not sugarcoat anything. Despite this, she is very mature and refrains from any commentary that might get her into trouble. It's hard to blackmail her with anything she says, simply because she "technically" does nothing wrong. Ienuqah also doesn't make a habit of associating with much of anyone if it isn't for official business, so she doesn't have friends. She doesn't mind, though.

TL,DR: She's quite the workaholic.

Her standpoint on the Irken empire is initially loyalty, but due to a series of awful events outside her control, she questions many ethics of Irken culture.

Backstory summary:

Smeets develop their hierarchies very, very early on. Smeets often are very violent with each other and participate in dominance battles. In a fight with Nishkip, she managed to tear one of Nish's antennae. He thus proceeded to beat her to a pulp. :'D Needless to say Ienuqah lost the fight, but they have been fierce enemies ever since and constantly try to outdo each other. Ienuqah is taller than Nishkip and thus receives more immediate respect, but Nishkip is higher rank.

Speaking of outdoing each other, Nishkip managed to completely destroy Ienuqah's thesis during their school days without getting caught via switching some beakers around; the result was ... explosive... and Ienuqah was promptly demoted and reassigned to the job as assistant researcher to a retired, freelance geneticist named Nemek in the far corner of the Empire's reign.

Nemek, as a mentor and overseer, was awful. It was just him and Ienuqah in his laboratory satellite orbiting around a barren planet, so there was no refuge for Ienuqah whenever he berated her and worked her to the bone. Ienuqah found life under this mentor to be a nightmare ... at first. Over the years, Nemek and Ienuqah came to a mutual understanding; to Ienuqah's surprise, Nemek was previously the lead scientist of the Empire (respectfully called the Research Commander-in-Chief) and oversaw every research project while only one rank away from the rank of Tallest. However, a single mistake caused his entire career to be ruined, as a miscalculation caused several deaths during an intense genetic experiment that would eventually be known as the Charon Disaster. This was why he was such a stickler about Ienuqah's work being up to his incredibly high standards; he didn't want Ienuqah making the same mistake he did.

But Ienuqah never truly knew the point of Nemek's research. Eventually she discovered that he was secretly researching the possibility of Pseudo-irkens, hiding in the empire. (See Shardken's bio for more info: Shardken Reference ) When Nemek left on a trip and never returned, Ienuqah received an emergency transmission from Nemek shortly before a mysterious disaster struck. Turns out Nemek left to visit a planet within the Empire's boundaries but unlisted on the Irken knowledge database. He said it was a "top-secret" planet for whatever reason ... with an atmosphere suspiciously identical to that of Irk. But with this, he explained something terrifying.

Nemek altered Ienuqah's PAK without her knowledge. It now had the ability to hide from the monitoring of control brains, which was usually done by reading the data/memories stored within an Irken's PAK. For whatever reason, Ienuqah couldn't let anything Nemek was researching reach the antennae of others in the Empire. For whatever reason, Nemek was hiding from the wrath of the control brains all along. But why? What did he do?

Evidently he discovered things that were not meant to be discovered. Which led Ienuqah to suspect something: perhaps Nemek's death was actually foul play.

In honor of his memory, Ienuqah continues Nemek's research while simultaneously climbing the hierarchy of the Empire using the skills she learned from her beloved mentor. She now works in the Massive, on the verge of reaching the rank of Research Commander-in-Chief... the job Nemek once had.

Unfortunately, this is the same time in which the Empire sees a rise in threatening resistance forces, one of which employed the most terrifying spy of them all...

THE PURPLE ONE.

And that exact person alone proves to everyone, not just Ienuqah, that pseudo-Irkens not only exist, but many hide within the empire. When Shardken finds out that others of her kind are hidden in the empire, she decides that MAYBE destroying everyone in the empire isn't such a good idea. So she switches sides and swears loyalty to her new boss, Ienuqah, who is then given permission by the Tallest to pursue Nemek's work without fear of judgement, harassment, or demotion ... for it's crucial to discover who is truly Irken and who is not. Ienuqah uses Shardken as a means of research, analyzing her and performing tests on her in order to find answers. Because of their alliance, Shardken will only ever take orders from one person: Ienuqah.

And all the while, the control brains can only stand by and obey orders from the Tallest, helpless as they no longer can pull the strings to Ienuqah's PAK so that they may do as they like.

And needless to say, the brains are pissed. But ... WHY are they pissed? Don't they want to find out who is Irken and who isn't for the sake of the "purity" and "superiority" in the Irken race? Or is there something a little... darker that has yet to be discovered by Ienuqah and Nemek?
