This is a piece I did for a gift exchange this month, this and the last piece I post were sent for the recipient and his wife
Larimar wrapped in round, square and twisted Gold Filled wire.
Larimar is a semi-precious stone classified as a type of pectolite. Although Larimar is a semi-precious stone it can cost more than some precious stones because of its rarity. Larimar is only found in one place in the world, in the southern part of the Dominican Republic. Although there are pectolite all across the world, Larimar is distinguished by its blue to blue-green color with white veins through it. This is caused by the absorption of cobalt instead of calcium. The name Larimar derives from the discovery by Me. Mendez, a Peace Corp worker in 1974, he called it Larimar for his daughter Larissa and the Spanish word Mar for the name of the Sea.
Larimar is believed to help in viewing new and different perspectives, to soften and enlighten. It aids in healing the emotional, physical, mental and spiritual body. Larimar is a stone known to help boost confidence as well as promoting a soothing surrounding and reduces stress. Larimar is a stone known to help in generating soothing energies.
Gold Filled Wire is not the same as Gold Plated. Gold Filled is an actual layer of gold pressure bonded to a base metal. Gold Filled Wire has over 100% more gold than Gold Platting does. Gold Filled is much more valuable, won't chip away and is more tarnish resistant than plated. Anyone who can wear Gold can wear Gold Filled without worries of allergic reactions to the jewelry.
In the notation 14/20 the 14 refers to the gold being 14k and the 20 refers to the law that to be labeled "Gold Filled" the weight of the wire has to be 1/20th gold. All Zoria's products that have Gold Filled wire is at least 14/20 quality or better.
