Just thought I'd be fair, and say I'm about to spam your inbox with comments and favs!
I've been meaning to go through your gallery for a loooooooooong time (years, in fact T_T) but what with one thing and another in 2013, I ended up mostly just staying away from dA. But my New Year's Resolution for 2014 was to be more active here (and that goal has been hit-and-miss so far) so HERE I GO! *it's about time*
Also: You're a cool artist.

Cicatricks In reply to Chisaku [2013-05-23 01:16:05 +0000 UTC]

I was originally going to put a fully realized face on the baby, and just used the current expression as place holder, but when I was done with the rest, I felt that it added an important point of levity.

Interestingly enough, most of the body work is done with layer styles, rather than actually paining the effects in photo shop. I used some skills I had learned from a map making tutorial, and voilà!

Again, thank you! and thank you for taking the time to reply!

Ö

I didn't know you were Swedish.

I'm currently learning Swedish and wow a teacher would sure help.

Especially the article "på" I just don't get that.

Sweden must be an awesome place to live.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chisaku In reply to TheLezh [2012-12-26 19:36:58 +0000 UTC]

Hahah! Yes, yes, I'm Swedish. Sweden is pretty nice, but I've lived here all my life which might skew my opinion. Ö

I'd be happy to help you.

From my viewpoint the article "på" is quite simple to use.
It usually translated to "on", like in "on top of something". If there's anything in particular about the use of "på" that's tough, feel free to ask, I might have missed thinking of something!

For example:
"På [ett bord.]"
"On [a table.]"

"(Maten) är på [bordet.]"
"(The food) is on [the table.]"

(Also, I'm not the best teacher in the world, but I'll try my best.)

TheLezh In reply to Chisaku [2012-12-27 04:09:50 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah. Cool thanks. I just couldn't find a thing on that.

Also another question for now, what if I said in Swedish

I have the red(or pretty much any Adj.) tables?

Is it Jag har den röda borden? or Jag har borden röda? Or what?

Many thanks for everything so far ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chisaku In reply to TheLezh [2012-12-28 14:57:14 +0000 UTC]

You got it mostly correct, it was just a "den"/"de" difference.

I have the red tables.
Jag har de röda borden.

If the noun is in plural (there's several of them), the "det" or "den" change to "de".

For example:
[Singular]
I have the red table.
Jag har det röda bordet.

I have the red cat.
Jag har den röda katten.

(It sounds a bit like they're demanding ransom for that table and cat, hahah!)

[Plural]
I have the red tables.
Jag har de röda borden.

I have the red cats.
Jag har de röda katterna.

Here's a good source on "den"/"det"/"de": [link]

If there's any questions, feel free to ask!

Ah thanks. Sorry I didn't get back earlier, I have issues with tasks and memory sometimes =/

As for my next question...

How do you pronounce, är ?
So far I always pronounced as a as in cap or gal with a small r at the end.

Sort of sounds like aaer or
how the Spanish say r but a bit
different again.

I'm not sure if this is right or
explaining this well enough.

Chisaku In reply to TheLezh [2013-01-03 17:19:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh, don't worry about replying, it's never too late and there is no obligation to do it at all. I'm usually very slow with replying, so I don't mind at all.

I've never been that good with phonetics, so sorry if I get this wrong or it's hard to understand. Your explanations were great.

What "är" sounds like: [link]

To pronounce "är" clearly:
- you say both the "ä" and "r" (so that you can hear them)
- "ä" sounds a bit like "ae" (as you said), the two letters sounding together
- I think the r is indeed a bit rolling, like in Spanish
- in comparison the "ä" sound is longer than "r"
- /ɛːr/

To pronounce "är" the common way:
- just "e" in Swedish.
- most common in the middle of sentences, if it's first, the clearer version is preferred (my opinion/thought)
- /eː/

I've linked a page with how the Swedish sounds are pronounced, the Swedish pronunciation appendix.
Try looking for the signs ɛː, r: and e: on that page and listening to the audio files.

Words sound different to everyone depending on their native language, so I hope you'll be able to make your own judgement on how it sounds to you!

TheLezh In reply to Chisaku [2013-01-07 04:35:33 +0000 UTC]

Ahh so I was right about pronouncing it.

Cool

Now, when I see an å how am I supposed to pronounce it?, because sometimes
I hear it (Sounds from English) as either an oo or an oo-uh

Which is it?

Also I heard of the alphabet with the same problem.

Is it ah, be, ce? or ah, be-uh, ce-uh?

Is it an accent, or preference thing?, what's with it and how do I
properly say words with an å in it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chisaku In reply to TheLezh [2013-01-07 16:36:19 +0000 UTC]

The ways you've heard the "å" are correct! Both of them. oo I think is more suitable in a word, and oo-uh as a single letter.

I'll try to cook up an example right under this sentence.

Toes = tår - tor (in some cases vowels sound shorter/longer)
Toe = tå - too
Å = å - oo-uh

With the alphabet it's a preference thing, if you want to say each letter a bit longer, end it with an -uh or h-sound. Without h feels a bit faster, in my opinion. I think the å, ä and ö can't do without the sound in either case.

ah, be, ce, de, e(h?), ef, ge, hå, i, ji, kå, el, em, en, o(h?), pe, qu (or kju), er, es(s?), te, u, ve, dubbel-ve, ex, y, zeta, oo-uh, ääh, ööh

ah, be-uh, ce-uh - and so on.

TheLezh In reply to Chisaku [2013-01-08 09:38:13 +0000 UTC]

Exactly how I do it for words and if the letter is by itself.

Just check since that was never something told to me until now XD

Also a little recap on how an "e" works in Swedish.
I hear a lot as eh or e as in bed. Other times I think I hear it as an
ay sound as in day. Sometimes it seems mixed.

I've been doing just eh, but I have a feeling I might pronouncing some words wrong.

And, can you explain the pronounciation of Sverige? Why does it sound like
suh-vad-de-yuh. First time I heard it, I was deathly confused since, I see no "d" or "a" making the duh and ah sounds.

I understand the ending ge, because e is a soft vowel and g turns into a y sound but what else?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chisaku In reply to TheLezh [2013-01-12 18:20:11 +0000 UTC]

Those are just my interpretations, so I might be wrong... but I like to think that when a letter is alone, I add an h-like sound to the end, to make it longer. Or just say it a bit longer. Or maybe it's not needed at all. It was just how I perceived it.

Jag la katten i korgen
Jag la katten ih korgen
(I put the cat in the basket)

I think "eh" (kind of what Australians are stereotypically said to say) for e sounds correct, at least for me. It is indeed like the e in bed.

I think vowels change their length depending on the amount/type of consonants at the end of the word, which can make them sound different as well. Could you write which words sound differently at "e", in your opinion? It would be helpful to know.

katt (cat) = short a
kam (comb) = long a

hetta (heat) = short e
el (electricity)= long e

There could be exceptions, but usually:
middle/end is double consonants: the vowel before them is short
one consonant: the vowel before is long

Here's the vowel phonology on Wikipedia: [link]

If I would write Sverige somehow like it sounds, I'd write it svaer-yeah (from /sʋæɾjə/).
I am not sure if I can hear the d or a sounds in it, I'm not all that good at speaking English.
Did you listen to it from this site? [link]
Or maybe you heard it as svad-yeah? The e at the beginning is a bit like ä (ae together) in "Sverige", so I think that could explain the "a" sound. Maybe the d is from r and j together in /sʋæɾjə/?

I'm not sure how I would explain this. :'D

I'm not very good at this pronunciation stuff, sorry. :'D
