I must ask you, do you listen to music while writing? If you need a mysterious mood, but you don't have the music, I can always recommend some really good pieces that would really help.
If you ever need some ideas for creatures, settings, etc, i'd be happy to oblige.

Mysterious moods could lend itself well to songs such as...
Chukhung, Kobresia, Hyperborea, pretty well the whole Substrata album by Biosphere.
Try that on youtube and see if you like it, if you do, I have more to supply you with

I like the backround quite a bit. The planet itself lends itself to look rather murky, swampy, almost radiated. Now just the font, make it small... And skinnier, similiar to that of the style of Aliens.
Keep the backround, it reflects well on space itself.

It's a character-driven story that revolves around five soldiers and their war on a mysterious planet. It sounds rather simple when I explain it that way, but it was the universe around it I was developing, more so than the actual event.
BTW, no problem, I sketch as well and I need some new poses to work with instead of using the same one over and over again.

Yes, that's true. One of the biggest challenges for a lot of writers is getting over that "My stuff sucks, no one will really like it ENOUGH (to buy or whatever)". Some writers never do, those that forge on anyway become writers, those that don't...don't.

I love it man! You did a very good job on it, one thing though. The outpost is crossing the middle, which just so happens to possess a supermassive blackhole. Just a clear up, but other than that, you did a very good job on it!

I'm just spit balling, but maybe you can use this from my story, "The Bermuda Skyway". For me it's an area of the galaxy that humans cannot traverse as they will be killed, for you it could be something else.
"Nova Field (Stars exploding rather often in the area)"
"The Irradiated Zone (Zone of which contains lethal amounts of radiation, standard cruisers cannot be used in this area.)"
"Terminus Systems (An abandoned area of the galaxy)"
