Did you know?

On WoF sets prior to 2002, to display contestants' earnings, they used eggcrate displays made by Display Systems. The typical model number for a digit is 19S-8.

Inside the back box, a crude ROM card consisting of discrete diodes acts as a character ROM for the display, mapping the pixels (which are all #1820 light bulbs) to each character. Since each anode is hooked to the bit line and each cathode to the word line, we have a common anode configuration—the +28V rail goes to common and one data pin sinks to ground.

So, now you know how those older eggcrate displays work under the hood.

My pleasure. I enjoyed watching the 1st 2 seasons of Digimon when I was a child, including game shows like JEOPARDY! & everything else.
