Description a suede tophat i made out of 100% recycled material... well, everything but the string i used to sew it all together.

the suede is the inner side of some leather from a totaled car's seat.

the dye to make it brown (it was gray) was used coffee grounds i boiled down and soaked it in.

the wire holding the brim's shape was once a tomato cage.

the bit that stiffens the top is... sadly, cardboard. (for future tophats, what would be a better thing to use?)

and the liner... that was once a shirt that i also dyed with coffee. (i dont think ive done any art that isnt coffee related in my life)

completely hand sewn using nothing but a sewing awl, and a hammer and nail as a punch.

i finished this back in january, no idea why im just now uploading it.

as for which side is the front and which side is the back... i dont really know. the double stitched side was an odd design choice i realize, but when i had both sides the same, it was a bit... boring to me, so i changed it a bit. i like it better this way, i think.

That's amazing, but I think it'd be better if you didn't have anything holding the top straight. It doesn't look right when everything else is uneven on it.

i thought the exact same when i was making it. i figured id make the whole thing with the exception of the brim soft.

but... trying it out, the entire thing was a shapeless blob without it. most of what gives the sides their structure is the stiff top, even though the sides themselves are soft. jamming one's skull up in it evens out the shape even more, but without the stiff top... even filling it with brains didnt help.

Oh, so that's what it looks like! It looks great, must have been a lot of work... >.< And the fact that it's all recycled except for the string is amazing!
Would look great to finish a steampunk cosplay or something similar...
Does it still smell like coffee? Because I absolutely love the smell of coffee.

only slightly... if you rub the suede a bit the smell really comes out, but usually you have to be really close to smell it.
