I first encountered when, seemingly out of nowhere, she asked me to draw her character. I said "sure" and did a drawing. Later on, she invited me to be part of her OC Batman villainesses group, and once again I said "sure" and got to work.

Of late, though, I've felt a bit silly about the quality of the original Hathaway drawing I did. I've been enjoying the villainess group very much, and it's opened up a whole new avenue of fannish behavior for me, plus a return to text roleplaying; I thought my original pic didn't quite do the whole thing justice. So I've tried again.

This is 's character, Hathaway Demerest. But this isn't as she appears--this is how my character, Maw, perceives her. Maw's nuts, obsessed with English literature, and a shark-woman who subsists on toxins; her viewpoint's bound to be a little skewed. Soon after the two characters first met in Arkham Asylum, Maw christened Hathaway "Shakespeare's Anne," in reference to (1) her name; (2) her somewhat mythic quality of character; and (3) her status as inspiration for the group.

Through Maw's eyes, Hathaway is a fine lady who has been badly used by life; her good gown is covered over by a piece of armor, just like her pretty face is half-obscured by the eyepatch. She's beautiful, and is posed here as if sitting on a garden bench, but she is also fearsome: she has just stepped in a pool of blood from one of her victims.

The little kitten wearing a green bowler and about to rub up against her leg? . . . Yyyeah, I think you guys know what the deal is with him.
