City Crests and Flags
The city crests are considered the official insignias for the city-regions of Alva and their ruling families, and are used on all official seals, documents and decorations where practical (primarily media such as paper, wax, wood, leather and stone).

The flags were developed from the crests, originally for maritime usage as ensigns to identify the nationality of ships. Over time, however, they have become popular among the commonfolk as patriotic symbols that are easier to produce. Nowadays, they are used on the battlefield, on uniforms and in all manner of other applications. Many older or fancier shields and pennants retain the original heraldic design, however in modernity the flag designs have become more dominant.
