Description Let's hope for Ares's sake that that storage jar is empty. And that he won't be stuck in there for thirteen months, like in the myth about how he was captured by Otus and Ephialtes.

The thing he tries to use as a weapon is of course som kind of oil lamp. An oil lamp that wasn't burning. Phew, I'm glad this scene with Ares is over. Action scenes can be really tricky to draw. But for the next page I have to come up with a good design for the great hall...

If Ares was a human he would probably be about 12 or 13, yes.

I'm sure she reprimands him when she is within earshot, but she has quite a temper herself so she's probably not setting a so very good example to him.

That's stating the obvious, she gave rise to the "Hell hath No Fury."

Their expressions are fantastic! Especially Athena in the third panel and Ares in the fourth!

This I take as the ultimate proof that Ares and Mars are NOT the same god. That, or between this episode and the Romans meeting him Athena, Aephestus and Aphrodite beated some sense into him.

Heh! Yeah, Mars was depicted as a much more respectable god and the Romans honoured him in a way that the Greeks never honoured Ares. I've read that you shouldn't always see the Roman gods as equivalents of the Greek ones, since they sometimes evolved into something quite different. Ares and Mars is a good example, I guess.

Wow, where did he pick up words like that? What's that thing he tries to hit her with? My first thought was some kind of lamp?

Probably by listening to the grown ups. His parents quarrel quite a lot and I imagine they can call each other not so very nice things at times.

Yeah, it's an oil lamp. Luckily it wasn't burning.

Ares, such a mouth on you. That is hilarious, though. Makes many older siblings wish they had a big pot.

If he is stuck in there for a while, he just doesn't learn, does he? I just love that everyone knows this myth!

I'm looking forward to seeing the great hall - and to see Athena give Zeus the confrontation he deserves!

Ares's role in Greek mythology often seems to be all about ending up in comical and degrading situations.

I'm looking forward to draw the next page, though I suspect it probably won't be an easy one. I just remembered that I have to draw Poseidon too and I'm still not quite sure how he should look like as a grown up.

What a good solution to a persistant nasty little pest. Place him in a jar too big for him to get out of.

Yeah, that will keep him in one place. Too bad it doesn't make him quiet as well.

Poor Ares! He's as brave as a lion but as smart as a sheep! And yes, I remember the myth about Otus and Ephialtes. I guess it's his curse to be constantly stuck in large jars or something.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

A-gnosis In reply to bhut [2011-12-07 23:40:24 +0000 UTC]

Yes, his curse is that he almost never thinks before he acts, so he'll end up in many situations like this.
