Okay, I did say I wasn't going to have time to draw anything new in a while, didn't I? Well, I wasn't lying.. after Monday I'll probably be gone for at least three weeks -- but I just couldn't help finishing up one last WIP on the side as I was working with Photoshop today.. It's an older drawing, from July I think, and rather sketchy too.. It was basically just a rough pencil lineart with no shading.. I'm not sure if I should rather call it "digital art" actually, as I did all the shading and highlighting in Photoshop..

At any rate, it's yet another romantic couple, the likes of which I draw when I wallow in the misery of my pathetic and lonely existence and feel like getting in touch with my feminine side... errr.. ..I mean: "the likes of which I draw to balance out the excessive masculinity of my macho personality.." ..umm.. ..yeah, right.

Seriously, though.. I do have some weird fixation on the story of Finrod and Amárië – quite strange, seeing as how the "story" is just a passing reference of no more than half a sentence or so in the published Silmarillion.. Anyway.. since I've already drawn their parting and reunion , I figured it's only logical to show their first meeting as well.. to complete the series so to speak. No? Well, nevermind.. This is a silly drawing, really, and not to be taken seriously – but I think I felt like drawing something light-hearted and cute for a change when I came up with this.

There's absolutely nothing in Tolkien's text to tell us how they met, but I'd imagine it would've happened when they were both quite young. This silliness was based on an idea that Amárië would have already had her eye on young Findaráto and then "waylaid" him once as he was setting out to go hunting.. She goes like:

”Hey there, hunter.. why would you go running after your food with your pointy sticks when you could just share this fruit with me – it's not running anywhere.. ”

..or something equally silly and corny to that effect.

Finrod: ”... huh..buh..guh..what..?”

..and I'll give you one guess as to whether he ever manages to even set that string to his bow.. So much for hunting. (No, I don't think this is what actually happened -- but like I said, it's a silly drawing. Also, like some people already noticed, I did indeed get the idea for the composition from classical depictions of the Biblical temptation scene.. )

EDIT: Changed the image.. Made it a bit bigger and strenghtened the highlights on Finrod.
