Description Edit: Moved this out of scraps after realizing it was actually more popular (in terms of faves, at least) than the other version. Sorry if this shows up on your watch again and whatnot? The version without all the text and texture can be found at [link]

This is the alternate version of the Cyberwoman picture - it was actually the original concept behind the pic, so it was no easy choice to stick it here instead of in the main gallery. I scrapped this one because a) the style of the piece ended up so far away from the original concept that it looks almost out of place with the text, and b) I spent SO FREAKIN' LONG on this thing that I hated to distort the colours and cover up bits of it.

Still, y'gotta admit that a sexy cyborg woman fighting a pterodactyl is right at home on an old-fashioned pulp cover, which is the point I was trying to get across. Researched a bunch of the old covers to get the right sort of feeling with the titles and the text, including the multiple stories in one issue, or the weird "A STORY OF THE FUTURE" type subtitles. Just plain fun.

Heh heh... pulp <3
If pulp books are good for anything, it's their covers. Torchwood would make a great pulp.

Man this really looks legit XD

Wow, this is excellent! The drawing and shading are spot on, and the dirty look you gave it is really fitting (like is been read a hundred times)! Absolutely wonderful

This is completely brilliant! I love the detail in the wear, and the font and text of the cover. Great concept! Yeah, the episode was a little creepier than it needed to be. That poor pizza girl. I loved her logic:

You remember that time the dog pissed on our tent? Wasn't that great? Wouldn't you like to make a race of superhumans together? You can go first! I know the last guy ended up looking metal ball covered in steel, but I think I'm improving.

Anyway, yeah for unnecessarily sexy cyberwoman! The texture of the pterodactyl is quite something.

The colouring is gorgeous but the 'ulp feel' aided by the text and book texture really make this piece something special. More than dramatic art it shows a creative twist in paralleling a contemporary work with its distant roots.

This is brilliant. Even the fonts are fitting. The only minor quibble I have is that I would have liked to see some more background, but I can understand painting the two characters must've been time-consuming enough. Great job.

Thanks a ton. Yeah, after spending 6 trillion hours on the characters, I barely had the energy to even DO a background. XD;

Haha, this is brilliant ^^

Gotta love Torchwood, and your representation of the cyberwoman is great, even if the cyberwoman design itself is rather... wrong ^^

Thanks a lot. The Cyberwoman design is faintly ridiculous, but hey, that's why I did this. XD

And of course, the picture is excellent!

Thanks. I looked up a lot of these old covers, and tried to imitate their styles with the typography. They have such a neat, old-fashioned look to 'em.

The composition is great here... It looks as if it was a vintage comic book cover; those are really cool. The coloring is breathtaking, and the color scheme itself radiates a dramatic feel.

Awesome work!

Thanks! The composition was based around the text, so this one probably works a wee bit better than the other one compositionally, yeah. XD

now this is fantastic! They should make the eps nito comic books, and then buy the rights off of t his from you. Because it's better then most comic front pages that I've seen.

I forgot to add on my comment to the ot her one. I have the same issues with colors altering when saved as other formats.

utterly unbelievably awesome! you totally have done a stunning job - I just adore this!!

And I wasn't even a big fan of Cyberwoman vs Pteredactyl, but its soooo right for this!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

acegirl In reply to claritylore [2007-06-28 20:40:26 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much. And I wasn't a huge fan of the Cyberwoman episode as a whole, but I did like the Cyberwoman vs. pterodactyl thing for exactly this reason - it was so ridiculous it came out with this silly, fun, old-school vibe of sci-fi from the days where you could get away just about anything in the name of "well, it's the FUTURE!"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

claritylore In reply to acegirl [2007-06-28 21:02:42 +0000 UTC]

I think that's why I love this pic so much - it really captures the spirit of the old-school vibe they were gunning for. Didn't really come off in the episode I don't think, but THIS is just marvellous.

I'd ask for more of these, but I'm sure this took FOREVER! Although, another Jack/Ianto sketch along the lines of that gorgeous one you put up on lj wouldn't go amiss
