[edit] derp, forgot to add something. I could've sworn I'd typed it already. This was an entry for part of a contest, and the prompt for this image was "draw a canon character acting completely out of character."

FABRICATION MACHINE.  

Y U SO DIFFICULT TO DRAW.

Ahem.

I can't believe I got myself to go through with this idea. Because of how much sketching and inking and coloring and shading it involved. And how many paused movie screens I had to use as references. At first I thought to myself "oh, this is such a fun challenge!" but about two days into working on this I could only think "AAARHHGDHFSJGLSJFKSLHSD *flips a table*" I started this on Monday, back when it was a tiny sketchy comic, and took me all week to finish. Mostly because Fab there is an enormous pain to draw and ink and shade and color.

I was a little stuck at first, coming up with an idea for this theme. Originally I was going to do one of the stitchpunks acting out of character, when suddenly I was stricken with "Well why does it have to be a stitchpunk? The machines count too, right?" I hope they do. :S

I love the Fabrication Machine. I've always felt sorry for the poor thing, and reading fics and watching music videos where he was the focus made me like him even more, tragic though they were. Basically, I have come to view Fab as something of an abused child. Forcefully taken from his "father" and forced to build machines by the Chancellor, and finally pushed over the edge where everything created by the Fabrication Machine turns on the humans with the intent of killing them all. I never draw him because. Well. Take one look at that design and tell me that doesn't look near impossible to draw. Anyways. I wanted to show Fabby in a different light. So I kinda re-did that scene where 7 is dangling from.. that pointy thing in the factory, and the Fabrication Machine comes to take a look, and apparently becomes enraged, based on all those sparks that fly from those bolts on Fab's, uh. Eye casing thing.

I almost went with harsh red highlights being cast by Fab's eye, but a] I wanted to finish this in time for the deadline and b] my patience was virtually gone by the time I finished everything else.

The Fabrication Machine, 7, 9, and stitchpunks are all Shane Acker's.
