Sorry for the late comment...

Thanks a lot!
There's acutally a fair few pieces dedicated to Deadliest Catch. Believe me, I've searched good and hard. You can really find all sorts here on dA, obviously!

You are very welcome! I just watched the season premiere last night.... and this season is going to be full of drama already!

adavesseth In reply to FernCloud66 [2009-05-05 18:32:10 +0000 UTC]

Aww, that's just teasing! I won't be able to see it until probably august, september. Living in Norway has its downsides.
But it's good that they have some excitement, as long as it's not tragedy. Still remember the first episode I ever saw of DC, it was when Big Valley went down. Shockingly realistic. I was pretty much hooked already.

(sorry for delayed reply, have been away...)

Thanks! Me too , it's strangely addictive!

Well, I have done five drawings already (Johnathan, Phil, Edgar, Sig and Edgar, and random guy falling into water), I don't want to seem like a total fangirl .
I wouldn't be totally shocked if there were more added to that list, though.

I'm definitely going to look for those. Edgar is one of my favorites, and probably the most memorable non-captain on the show...

No, it's all pencil, and it totally destroyed my hand
I used a 6B pencil here, though. Normally I don't go darker than 3-4B, because I like how it looks. Too bad it's a pain in the butt to draw...

I like the expression you gave this old (more or less ) man.
like he's happy with his live, but there's only a sour note: He misses sea...

and for not liking shading like this it became really great!

adavesseth In reply to Jabuzzz [2008-12-27 21:50:30 +0000 UTC]

Hehe... Yes, that's exactly what I saw in the photo and wanted to show in the drawing. A man who has his life among the waves, and are not satisfied until he is there yet again. (he's only forty, though, he's not that old )

And thanks a milion and a half for all the fav'es! I think that's about all of my gallery I'm very happy you find my drawings that interesting.

Jabuzzz In reply to adavesseth [2008-12-28 09:39:54 +0000 UTC]

i only favorited what i really like
only forty, well anyway.
I know that face too. My father is kind of a seaman.
he was never a fischerman, but he still loves voyages only with a little crew and himself to anywhere, finland, scotland, carribbean whatever.
And nearly every 2 years he sails away, even though he's now 56.

I also like sailing, but not that much.
Sometimes I'm going in his office, seeing him staring on that little boot I made for him, and he has the same expression in his face.

and about all the faves...
I really like some of your ways of drawing, and I like the way you changed your style. every style represents something new.
Some of your pic are just something special, and something a little bit weird, but that's the thing of all drawers.
Even I do sometimes something i never exspected to be that good

And if you've uploaded a new, wonderful drawing, this also should be honoured

ew, what a roman

What a nice little story!
It's so charming when people feel like they belong somewhere, longing back to that certain place. I guess I have some of the same feeling towards the forest. I could never have lived in a city, I need trees around me to be happy. Some people like the tranquility and sense of smallness out in the sea, and I need the silence, and reassurence of having trees around me. Hehe, people opperate in strange ways.

(sorry about the late reply, christmas took it's toll...)

Jabuzzz In reply to adavesseth [2009-01-05 21:57:37 +0000 UTC]

well, i guess, i belong to the nature.
I couldn't live in a city like munich for more than a month.
I need the almost silence with all its sounds like bird twitter, like storm, rain, a howling owl, whatever.

And well, I've been away for a week, somewhere in germany, and yeah, i really missed this place here

by the way i wish you a great new year

adavesseth In reply to Jabuzzz [2009-01-07 21:54:53 +0000 UTC]

I couldn't agree more! I've lived in cities too, and the noice just gets to my head. You feel surrounded by brick walls and people. Stress everywhere. It's only when you get away from that, that you understand how much you've been longing for it. The casuality and easiness of the birds and trees... Seems simple and boring in today's life, but maybe that's exactly what we need.

And your English is excellent, I hadn't thought about it before you said that you were Germanian. I'm Norwegian myself, but have been writing English online for many years, so I concider myself almost English, at least in writing

Jabuzzz In reply to adavesseth [2009-01-07 22:36:27 +0000 UTC]

Well, I luckily still live in a really little cottage in middle of nowhere.
But i mean, i commute everyday. I have to go to a kind of grammar school in Munich, because I'm almost deaf.
And i see the difference everyday.
My morning starts at half past five, at 6 I see the busdriver, talk a little bit with him, see the nature, then perhaps meet people in train i know.
And then Munich, big, grey and overcrowded.
No one knows you, you're being stressed, kicked, whatever, tries to get into an overcrowded road train.
School, big and like a hospital, the teacher don't say hello or something like that.
You don't know the other pupils, only hear, they'Re muttering about you...

I hate it sometimes.. well, mostly...

Well I'm learning English in school for 6 years now, but only two years ago I really started to think about English as something interesting...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

adavesseth In reply to Jabuzzz [2009-01-14 19:22:24 +0000 UTC]

That sounds like an interesting life, being able to see so much contrast in one day. It makes you think, I guess...
I've went to a big college at one point, I only lasted about two weeks, but that was due to illness. I thought it was horrible. You went to the auditorium, found an empty seat, and listened to the speaker. No "hello"'s, no funny comments, friends, no nothing. I felt so alienated.

I started reading and writing English on the internet, almost as soon as I started drawing at 16. I don't even think about it as a different language anymore, I think in English, and write without having to translate.
What made you change your mind about English two years ago? Just curious.

Jabuzzz In reply to adavesseth [2009-01-14 23:24:31 +0000 UTC]

well In the beginning it was interesting, but the beginning has been seven years ago. So it's only nerve-racking and rather sad to see all that grey in city...

Yeah feeling alienated sound familiar to me. Really common here

Well I have several years subject english but two years ago i got my best english teacher. Mrs. Artukovic. She was from croatia. And she told us, how to "live" that language, how to like it.

We should write letters to practise for the final exams in "middle school" and i got bored of it. English was the only lesson in which i ever have done any homeworks. But i got tired of writing letters, so i asked her if i could write little stories.
and she loved that stories so much, she was looking forward to getting a new one from me everytime. and I really like her, so i wrote more and more stories.

short before i left that school for ever, she gave me a little notebook in which i should write more stories, and on the first page she wroter that:

Thanks for being a ray of hope!

And well, she had shown me, how to live English, how to like it.
I really miss her! I'm in a kind of grammar school now and the teacher here isn't even as good as a Quarter of her if you understand what I mean...

adavesseth In reply to Jabuzzz [2009-01-26 20:19:30 +0000 UTC]

Aw, that's so sweet of her! Teaching must be a pretty hard profession, I've only tried it for a week, and I was dumbfounded...
I had a teacher like that in junior high, she was really good at inspiring. I remember drawing front pages in my History note book, because I wanted it to be good looking The only time I've ever been interested in history.
Teachers like that are jewels to find!

Jabuzzz In reply to adavesseth [2009-01-26 21:20:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, as I said, I really really miss her
I had apparently a lot of jewels last year.
but perhaps some teachers are like jewels but that covered with mud you have to clean them...

That is some very vise words. And I think that counts for a lot of people. There have been people that I avoided when I first met them, but then turned out to be my best friend a few months later. I guess the lesson is, never trust the first impression

Thanks!
After the initial difficulties regarding the balance of the drawing, I've grown to like the composition as well. It makes him have a sort of "staring into obliviance"-look, which fits really well.

Wow! I've never seen your art before, and I can tell just from this picture that you are fantastic. The shading is great and you did such a wonderful job with your blending and everything...it looks like a photo, no lie! And the determined face of the sailor is great. I was born near the ocean and travelled on lots of fishing trips in the Gulf so I always wanted to sail. This picture is really great...def fav!
