your ideas are great, and your style is amazing. the lines flow like water. (i wanted to say, the ink flows like, well, ink, but that would have perhaps been an obvious humorous observation).
i would make the eyeball into a tourist attraction kind of thing, you know, "come look at the amazing crater with a contracting black hole in the center!" or something along those lines.
newspaper headline: "family mourns when man dies upon purposely jumping into the black hole at the eyeball in the east-side downtown."

You have the most warped sense of dark humor I've ever scene.

Keep it up.

Those flea men work fast. Will they spread to the floor, or is it too cold there for them to survive?

Brilliant! I like your stories - you don't try and fit too much in, but on the other hand, there is complete story there.

Do you labor over the drawing, or does it all come more or less naturally (it looks so natural)?

Do they take a lot of time (both for the concept/story and the art)?

Do you draw, then ink over the drawing and erase - if so, is the drawing worked and reworked or pretty much what you see in the ink version? Do you do much after they've been scanned in?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'd love to be able to do something like this, so I want to pick your brains for clues.

Many thanks! As for your questions, I'll try to annswer as clearly as my vicious hangover will allow:

-- My drawing mostly comes pretty naturally where figures are concerned, but architecture and anything else involving straight lines cause me no end of trouble. The cityscape in this one was pretty easy, though, relatively simple and organic as it is.

-- This one didn't take too long... I couldn't say how many hours I spent at the coalface (there was plenty of procrastination time between them), but it was all done in the space of a day. Again, the figures were a snap, but I got a little caught up with all the itty bitty buildings.

-- I do use pencil lines, but they're very chaotic and more like a kind of visual shorthand than anything approaching a recognisable drawing. Most everything is done in the inking stage. I do diddly squat after they've been scanned in, mostly because I don't have the software or the know-how. Actually, I tell a lie, I do sometimes tweak the contrast a bit.

Why such a fine draughtsman as yourself should want to do this kind of thing is beyond me, but I'm always more than happy to give advice

Thanks. I'd love to be able to do this, but anything without a ref and I'm lost. A lot of people do comic/graphic novel stuff, but you do it so well. The figures are distorted, yet very human. I see you are putting it together in a book - are you going to be publishing that somewhere? Or would you distribute a pdf of it?

I couldn't help noticing this - very interesting stuff! Your work is amazing, and it's great to learn a little about your process.

This series is so neat; I always enjoy your unique blend of surreal humor and grotesque whimsy, and this is a fine showcase for that.
