I like this one over the other one mainly because of how you've taken this one at an angle, and so it makes things more interesting, composition wise.
The monotone accentuates the little details to great degree, I feel. I like the depth of field and how the lighting makes it soft and the main subject matter makes it hard...
Quite an interesting contrast and whatnot.

i think i do as well, but only a little bit
one thing that really bothers me about this shot, is the focus is more "far forward" than i would have liked it. my cameras auto-focus, for some reason, only ever focuses right smack in the middle... and seeing how the manual focus is literally impossible to use... leaves me at quite a bit of a disadvantage. that's why a lot of my macro shots are not angled :/
i'm glad you think it all works out well... with the monotone and whatnot. how do you feel about the color toning? i cross-processed it after turning it b&w: a dark green in the shadows, and a pale yellow in the highlights...

yeah, i did a little. most of my b&w photos are cross-processed or toned... to a degree. i only do it a tiny amount, just to make it seem less flat, and jump out of the screen a little
