The texture of the bark is very pretty. Are there lots of these types of trees in your neck of the states ?

well this was actually a dead log... and i have never seen one quite so beautiful.
i have no idea what type of tree it was... but no, i guess, the answer is no. we have mostly oak trees... and some pines... and i dunno what the names of all of them are... but very rarely do i ever find a tree that has gorgeous bark. unless it's dead, of course.
bark seems to look a lot more interesting when it's peeling and flaking and all the sap isn't flowing anymore.
