Description The second and thus far latest in the series of Celtic inspired Jewelry boxes. Again, Tony Remillard is my hero for helping me put this together in it's full three dimensions, and again, all the cutting and design is by me, myself, and I with no glass saw. Cuz I'm a glutton for punishment. This is intended for my sister for her 17th birthday this September. Just a baby...

I have no idea on how to review jewelry and craftswork, but here we go:

Love this. I don't really understand why, to be honest. I can see the parts in the metal where it melted, it seems rough, and I never really paid attention to Celtic knotwork. Maybe it's because it's natural. Things in nature are supposed to be weird and slightly disfigured, and this is unapologetically natural. There are no attempts to cover its flaws up, but instead wears them.

That, and I've been paying attention to Celtic knotwork lately. Stupid vines for being so hard to draw.

Peace, love, and oh so twisty,

~Cjao

That's gorgeous~! I love the colors you chose, they go great together, especially in glass form. The celtic pattern on top is so intricate and it looks like you put a lot of time into this piece. Good work!

thank you ...her favorite color is green, and I wanted to counterbalance the muted tones with something bright...I'm glad it translated well.

You did very well adhering to the style. When I saw this I immediately knew what type of art you were going for. I could tell by the intertwined lines that is characteristic of that part of the world and their own specific art history.

You're welcome. I'm Irish too but I didn't know about that until I took Art History. I really wanna go to Ireland someday, I live in the U.S. right now.

me too...I'd love to experience the culture first hand. Their art is so rich and unique, and so much fun to try to replicate.

LionThatWaits In reply to AigneadhAigeann [2010-08-20 22:21:22 +0000 UTC]

I bet. Your piece is just stunning. Did you know that the intertwined lines came from paganism then got put into church art when the church first migrated from the Roman Empire upwards, for instance you can see that idea in many of the old church illuminated manuscripts that monks made in the scriptoriums. For example the Book of Kells exhibits that style very beautifully.

and sorry if that was boring, I'm an art history buff...

The colors you chose really highlight the intricacy of this design! I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been to keep all the little pieces in their proper order! Did you design the knot yourself, then?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AigneadhAigeann In reply to shiseihitsuji [2010-08-20 19:45:01 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I did design it, trying to keep my sister's personality in mind with color and composition; I wanted to translate her loud, poignant and fluid nature via curvy orange strips. If that made any sense o.o;;

shiseihitsuji In reply to AigneadhAigeann [2010-08-21 00:25:52 +0000 UTC]

Hee hee, well, it makes sense to me, anyway. I really admire your skill in both glasswork and knotwork! (My mother used to design and make stained-glass pieces, so I have some appreciation for what it entails. ) My own knotwork designs never come out so nicely. I have grand plans to check out the rest of your gallery once I get a little more free time!

The style is beautiful. I get lost in those knots only looking at it - can't imagine what amount of concentration it must have taken not to mess anything up in that design.

First... great piece of work,
...just wondering how long it take you to finish it?

Second, I thought would be possible to but similar thing... probably not, too much work for such low price...

Anyway regards and keep with great glass-work.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AigneadhAigeann In reply to VikingWasDead [2010-08-20 19:52:30 +0000 UTC]

this took about two weeks if I remember correctly...it took a few days longer than the first box because I'm not the biggest fan of orange, so I didn't enjoy utilizing it as much...but me saying a few days means squat cuz I've been known to devote 14 hours of a day straight to working on glass.

Another box of this size and complexity would probably run between 850-1,000 dollars because of time and energy put in and the fact that the cuts are all done by hand. But I could make much smaller ones for less.

Thank you for the feedback

oh goodness, you're right, I forgot to post that...all the boxes so far and any to join the series are 11" long X 11" wide by 4" tall. Probably would have been a good point to mention ._.;;
