[Notes: So, this is one of the two variants I've always wanted for Ponyta. I've kept this one as simple as I could to keep up with the original. If you like it, do comment.]
.
There's a widely known tale about Ponyta and its variants in the land of  Alneo. According to the tale, long ago, there lived a king who had three sons. The king was just and kind and always valued his subjects, and so were the three princes. The princes were always worried about the welfare of their subjects and tried whatever they can to help the people. The Overlord Arceus was pleased by their virtues and to test them, he sent Jirachi who asked each prince to make a wish that they want to be fulfilled. In unison, the three replied that they want to protect the people for eternity. And this wish was what created the Pokémon we know as Ponyta.
.
According to the Alnean folklore, the eldest prince was transformed into the Skylord Ponyta. Also called the Fairy Ponyta, the Winged Ponyta, or the Holy Ponyta, the Skylords are the rarest of the three subspecies of the Pokémon. One reason for the rarity is that they keep wandering through the skies, coming to the land only once in years. And even then, they're too fast and mystic for anyone to actually manage to catch one. So far, only a couple trainers have managed to catch a Skylord.
.
These Pokémon are blessed with a supersonic speed stat. It is said that an average Skylord Rapidash can fly around the whole world in a few blinks of eyes. That, mixed with the heavy special attack and wide magical movepools, makes this variant an impressive battle, but these Pokémon are usually battle-shy and would never attack until threatened.

I’ve seen my fair share of winged rapidash fanart but this is easily one of the best.
