Hard to say... I think it has to do with the fact that they're all strong teens just trying to find their place in the world. The movies came out roughly around the same time, and they're all very likable characters. The Big Four turned into the Big Six I believe, when Frozen came out, and they added the royal sisters to the group. But don't quote me on that.
