Description     On this day 55 years ago, Sir William A. Stanier, F.R.S. worked the Railway Correspondence & Travel Society's "The Scottish Lowlander" rail-tour from Crewe to Edinburgh and back jointly with his rival designer namesake, Eastern Region A4 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley and his brother A4 60009 Union of South Africa.  After this, he was stored out of use at the sidings at the old Crewe Locomotive Works before being broken up for scrap and melted down in December 1964.  Here, Sir William A. Stanier, F.R.S. is seen at location unknown, circa April 1964 sporting the yellow cabside warning strip to notify that he was banned from running south of Crewe on the old LMSR.  However, he was seen standing under head wires on September 26th, 1964, as the old LNWR mainline from London to Carlisle (only completed in the 1970s) was the first holey electrified trunk route (whatever that is).  And yes, my T&F OC "Stan" is based on this locomotive.  Enjoy!

He's my favorite one actually, and was the inspiration for my own character (at the time) rebuilt shape. I like the look of the cut down cab a lot as opposed to the full cab the three that survive today sport, though that doesn't mean I don't like the de-streamlined ones. They're my favorite looking after the Ivatt ones.

I always liked the non-streamlined ones. Never liked that blood-red bathtub design.

OMG LMAO. But I have to agree there. They didn't even need it to be fast. It just seemed like "Oh, I want to look pretty for the camera so here I am in that streamlining.
