Description My second oil painting. I felt really good about this one as I worked on it, but her features ended up a teensy bit more square than I'd intended, so she's got a stronger jaw here. I still think it came out lovely. <3

I have one more painting to do, which I should be hopping off to go do in about ten minutes. It'll be an all-nighter, I think, especially since I have to use a new technique and several colors.

I mixed burnt sienna, raw umber and a tad of crimson to do this one, using the same oil-wash technique I used for the first, but this time I used only a tiny bit of turpenoid only at the very beginning of the assignment. The turpenoid is meant to thin the paint so that you can pull off highlights, but I found it easy enough to use a dry brush to smear the tone or wipe away with a paper towel. I finished most of it one day, then came back to it the next morning to add sharper shadows and finish filling in the background with the rest of the paint I'd mixed. (I loved working on those braids!)

It was an online class assignment - we worked primarily from provided selections of photographs.

Thanks for your comment

My goodness, this is wonderful For only your second oil too, I'm very impressed. It's one of my dreams to do some oil painting, but unfortunately the fumes would disrupt the rest of the students :S

Again, this is lovely

Thank you

I was really worried about the transition from charcoal to oil, but I guess it worked!
