Aaron IV came to the throne of the still weakened Empire of Louisiana just a year before Archduke Franz Ferdinand met his doom in a back alley of Sarajevo. The grinding trenches of the Fourth Western War spurred military engineers over the previous two decades to develop advanced aircraft, landships, explosives, poison gases, and countless other bizarre and terrifying weapons to speed up advances, but the war in Europe is still just as desperate and vicious.

The Imperial Bloc of the New World had grown close ties to Triple Alliance of Europe, and so by 1915 all of the Empires are building up their militaries in open defiance of the Treaty of Santiago. In 1916 the Republican Bloc waged in favor of the Entente, and the Fifth Western War began. Thus the Great War truly became a world war, with battles on every inhabited continent. Without the 1917 American invasion of Europe from OTL, the war wears on until 1922, when the Imperial/Alliance powers finally collapse under the strain, 30,000,000 lie dead. In the Treaty of Versailles, The map of the Western Hemisphere is completely redrawn.

Louisiana is written out of existence; its majority French states are made into the Republic of New France, Florida and the Antilles are made into the Caribbean Federation, a Mexican Republic reclaims Tejas and New Philippines, the Central American Republic is formed farther south, Venezuela is separated into the Guiana-Suriname Republic and two states annexed by the South American Confederation, which also annexes Paraguay. The Mormon Empire is annexed by the United States as a permanent territory, Haiti takes the lead in consolidating former Louisianan possessions in the Antilles into the Caribbean Federation, and the remaining states of Louisiana are fully incorporated into the United States. Brazil is divided it half into two republics, the northern one being called Paria.

Finally, the dream of Aaron Burr has passed into history.
