3 hours later...

"Nathan?!" You're here! You're alive!" Lara gasped as she dropped her aimed bow and arrow to the ground. She was so excited she almost tripped over her own feet as she ran over to him.

Nate kept his hands raised but dropped the book he'd been reading. Taking her in his arms and giving her a firm hug. He said, "Well I was the last time I checked."
Her arms were circling his neck. She squeezed him tightly. After a minute, they leaned back and looked into each others eyes.

"I just have one question to ask." Nate finally said.

"What?"

"Why the hell did you bury me beneath a corpse?" Lara blushed.

"How did you know it was me who put you there?"

"Lucky guess." He replied.

"Y-you were unconscious. A coma really."

"I gathered that. I have no memory of how or why I was in that death room."

"I tried and tried to wake you. But you wouldn't respond. Those bastards were closing in too fast for me to get you out then."

"And the only alternative was to hide me beneath a one of their own, huh?"

"It was the only place I was sure they wouldn't look. I did come back for you once I'd lured them away. But you were gone. I-I was scared
they'd taken you." She gave a light sniff and looked down. Nate himself felt tears beginning in his eyes. He reached his hand under her chin
and brought her eyes back up. He looked deeply into them for several seconds.

"I owe my life to you Ms. Croft. My heart too, if you'll take it." At that, he pressed his lips to hers. She returned the kiss, running her hands through
his hair and  across his face. He gently ran his hands along her back and hips. When the kiss ended, Nate told the brief story of what had happened to him. He woke up
just as the islanders had rushed into the chamber. He was scared shitless at having a corpse lying on top of him. But he didn't dare move until their voices
had faded away. He got up a little hazy but he soon shook it off. He was about to leave the chamber when a straggler came in from out of nowhere.
There was a short brawl and soon Nate had the man's weapon and ammo and was off down the passage from which the straggler had come.

"I took down 2 more quietly and hid the bodies. I wandered around searching for any sign of you but couldn't find anything. 2 hours later, I stumbled into this library.
Sure that I could take a break, I started searching the books for any more clues about the island and it's curse. And that's when you came bursting in, scaring the crap out of me."

"Sorry. I was just so on edge with searching for you all over the bloody damn place. But you know? You were so easily caught off guard. Had it been any of those assholes, you would be dead."

"Yeah yeah. Don't remind me."

Lara chuckled, pointing at the book he'd dropped. "Must've been some read."

At this, Nate lightened up.

"Hell yes. Here let me show you." He picked up the book he'd dropped and showed what he'd been reading and what notes he'd been making in his notebook.
They studied together for almost an hour, scouring over the books on the shelf and adding notes or drawing illustrations.

"I see. So now, if we..."

Lara never finished what she was going to say for at that moment the library door burst open and 3 islanders armed with pistols and a rifle opened fire on them.
Lara and Nate dove for cover behind a large thick oak wood reading desk. Drawing their weapons, they returned fire. After a 2 minute fire fight, one islander took out a bottle of alcohol with a
rag stuffed in its neck and lit it with a match. Just as he was hurling the cocktail toward them, Nate, having notice first the coming danger, jumped out from behind the desk and fired one
round at the bottle. It shattered, setting fire to the islander and the other one with the rifle next to him. They flailed, writhed and screamed in agony until they collapsed. The 3rd leaps out and away from
the fire. Lara, now with a clear shot, fires thrice at him. After being hit twice in the chest and once in the gut, he too collapses.

"Oh shit." Nate said while reloading his weapon. "Every bastard in this place will have heard those shots."

"Yes. How are we going to escape this time?" Lara replied, retrieving her bow. It still was undamaged thankfully.

"We'll figure as we go. That always works for me." She looked into his eyes again. They studied each other.

Lara then said, "If we should get separated again, here's one for the road." She plunged her lips into his.

"Ready for that road trip?" Nate said smiling. She nodded, smiling back. With that, they cautiously left the library through a makeshift exit.

I also like this pairing a lot, unlikely to happen but like it! I don't like helena and I prefer Chloe for Nathan so either Chloe or Lara Croft are far better. Great work!!
