Olympus E 510 and E 300. Love the brand and the lenses, although they're expensive.

hmmm... I've never tried olympus...
I have tried Pentax, that's a great brand too,
but I'm using canon, because I already had some canon ef lenses...

It makes sense to stick with something for which you already have equipment. Ultimately, I don't think it's about the brand but rather your own creativity. Have fun with the Canon, which is a great product!

Hades-shadow [2008-07-10 19:44:36 +0000 UTC]

Cool shot. It reminds me of an HDRI image, no?. What's with the hand though? lol.. Interesting lens size also! I presume though that's just reflectivity distortion, perception goes right out of the window!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alimuse In reply to Hades-shadow [2008-07-10 19:46:20 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's distorted. And, yes, I admit, the hand is covering the cleavage. I had other shots that were not quite so modest!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hades-shadow In reply to alimuse [2008-07-10 19:48:17 +0000 UTC]

Ah heh. Still, with the sharpness of your camera and it's good retention of light sources (Olympus have surprised me!) Have you ever considered taking HDRI shots?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alimuse In reply to Hades-shadow [2008-07-10 19:52:22 +0000 UTC]

Actually, this is HDRi, but I smoothed it out. I have a goodly number of HDR photos in my gallery, but lately I'm shooting in RAW a lot and find that the clarity and range I get with that doesn't always require extra HDR processing. I love using both! Olympus is a great camera. This is my second one (my first was an E300) and I've found them both to be very high quality!

Hades-shadow In reply to alimuse [2008-07-10 21:37:12 +0000 UTC]

Aah wonderful . I'm yet to progress to DSLR [primarily because it's a pretty expensive hobby, and as a poor college student I lack the finance to fund it!] but I've just got my canon SLR EOS 500/rebel to do a bit more advanced photography than most digital compacts are capable of (Mainly manual control)

granted, it is a film camera, but the sample images I've seen have been pretty fantastic and it will be fun to learn the manual control capability, how to develop film, and the uses of different types of lenses!.

On the bright side, when I finish college and get a job I should be able to afford a DSLR [And, if I choose a canon dslr, the lenses I have / will get for my EOS will fit!]

Anyway, sorry for rambling on

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alimuse In reply to Hades-shadow [2008-07-10 21:52:07 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's true that initially, the expense for DSLRs is more. I have to tell you, though, that in the long run I have saved tons of money in film and development alone. Plus, I've had the added capability of complete control over the end product. A DSLR is definitely the best way to go, by the way, once you save up the money.

alimuse In reply to kiltedman [2008-07-11 18:58:23 +0000 UTC]

I'm okay with it now that I figured out how to hide the daily devs and popular things, which I avoid like the plague. (I'm a little slow on the web stuff, sometimes.) Lots less cumbersome, I think!
