hello! i call this world Iridium - 5. and no, its not iridium-5 the satelite thats currently orbiting earth! its a fictional planet in another system.

Iridium - 5

iridium-5 is located in a remote system near the edge of the milkyway galaxy. it is home to a super advance race of beings who call themselves the Iridians. being a world similar to earth, the iridians have evolved to resemble humans but with far more superior intellects and technology! this tends to make them arrogant and self-centered when working with other races. they specialise in weapons developing and testing as well as defense systems. because of this, access to the system by outsiders is strictly prohibited and infiltration is impossible. the planet has a high abundance of heavy metals from which the race makes their weapons. but their main type of weapons are energy based. it is rumoured that they have developed weapons powerful enough to wipe out entire worlds from hundreds of light years away with great accuracy! besides weapons, they also make other technology that are beneficial like transporters, warp drives and holographic maps.

iridium-5 is the same size as earth, has a ring system and a large moon about the same size as ours. its moon orbits twice as far from the planet as our moon is to earth, and also along the same plane as the planets equator. so the ring system isn't disturbed and can exist. the moon itself is barren just like ours, but with some colouration due to minerals in its crust. the planets rings take on a blue-green colour because of methane and ammonia ices in the rock, which is of unknown origin.

iridium-5 and its inhabitants are ranked second in the top ten most advanced worlds in the galaxy with the first being the protians from the alpharyx system. and also sixth amongst the top ten most remote civilizations. the world is marked with large and beautiful structures that are amazing feats of architecture. while the iridians themselves are not robotic/ energy like the protians, they have nanotech inside their bodies, which allows them to live healthy and long lives of about 1,000 iridian years, or 2,000 earth years! thus, 1 year on the planet is roughly 2 earth years. the planet's long year is due to its stars high luminosity in which the habitable zone is further from the star and thus, it would take longer to complete one orbit around the star.

i took a long time with this one, but at the same time enjoyed making it! i deliberately put no stars in the image to show the planet's remoteness, but a faint milkyway should be visible. i'm also trying new city lights, i got the brushes from here: [link] . tell me how they look. i got the ring shadow more accurately this time! as always, comments are welcome and appreciated!

You know, Mars may actually get its own ring system when Phobos gets within Mars' Roche Limit and may break up in tens of millions of years. That would also be a cool concept.

yeah, i knew about that already. it would probably be sparse and thin, or maybe phobos might just impact mars? i did have an idea for that back in the past, but it must have slipped my mind, thanks for reminding me!

The rings don't have to be very massive or dense to be noticeable, such as Saturn's. Phobos may be less massive than Saturn's rings, but Mars is much smaller than Saturn.

Saturn's rings are actually quite inconceivably huge You could fit six Earths side by side and still have room for the Moon. Saturn's rings can also be up to 1km thick.
But I agree with you, as the mass of Phobos could potentially weigh only a thousand times less than the mass of Saturn's rings, and Mars' circumference is a good 20 times smaller than that of Saturn!

Here's an epic picture illustrating their size
