Description Beak tooth
Scientific name: Kentrognathus (Sharp jaw)
Length: 5 to 6 feet
Height: 2 feet
Weight: 60 ibs
Habitat: wetlands
Native region: North America
Evolved from: American beaver
Lifespan: 23 years

- Beak tooths have retained a similar body plan to their ancestors. The only difference is that their incisors have formed into a beak like formation. The incisors are now visible, fused together to form one tooth, and has to be filed down because they continue to grow throughout the animals life.
- Just like their ancestors, they form dams and block waterways with them. Diving into the water is their main defense against predators although their teeth can inflict nasty wounds.
- Beak tooths are a keystone species because they create aquatic habitats and clear out older trees so that younger ones can obtain light. They also control and balance certain plant species from getting out of control.
