Marta Montell (MartAiConan, martaiconan.deviantart.com/ ) made this absolutely soul-wrenching sketch of Auri and Kvothe from my favorite scene in Pat Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicle (the aftermath of the plum bob poisoning, Chapter 7 of The Wise Man's Fear), and I asked her permission to paint it.
I hope she doesn't mind that I added the background (I don't know what to do with white space) and made a couple changes to the figures (I had to move Kvothe's leg because he was falling off the bed, and I added the vest so that the white shirt wouldn't be a focal point). I had so much fun painting this. Thanks, Marta!

Well, I am jealous of people that can write heart-stopping prose, so I suppose that makes us more or less even.
I will try to get a high quality print made next month (the rest of April has unfortunately been eaten by my doctoral thesis proposal). After I get the print figured out, I would be happy to send you the original. (I don't mean to push it on you, but at the moment it is just collecting dust on my dresser ...)

Really good work! Beautiful use of a subdued color palette. The background perfectly enhances the mood of this piece without distracting from the subjects. I love the unexpected addition of the lute (I think it's a lute?) as well.
