"Stop making fun of my cat..."

Whoop, it's Anders! From Dragon Age: Awakening & Dragon Age II. Another one of my favourite characters in Dragon Age, though quite many others would disagree (probably you know why). Certain spoilers below!!

Well, like Alistair, Anders doesn't have a high detailed render CG model of him, but I really wanted to draw one of Anders. I basically started up my game and started taking screenshots of Anders like crazy. I took about 60+ of them before I finally found one puuuurfect to use. Really quite hard to find one of him smiling or smirking at all. (Everyone should know how Anders doesn't smile a lot and he's always so sad, I went through the Anders appreciation thread over at Bioware and they gave him the nickname Ser Pouts-A-Lot, Haha).

Anyway, I'm one of those people who actually STILL like Anders after what he did to the Chantry. (Sure, I went WHAT THE HELL!? when he did that, but it was understandable). On my first playthough, I got really sick choosing the neutral speech options when Meredith and Orsino kept fighting. Sure, the Chantry wasn't the best option, but Anders had to do something. Anyway, some of y'all gonna hate me, but I LET HIM LIVE!!! (And he and Hawke ran away together. Hahahah)

So hopefully only those who likes/loves Anders would appreciate this fan art, I'm not looking for any debates or anything of what he did, that's for the threads people!

Face:
For Anders, I decided to use his DAII look, thought it was quite fitting, with it being recent and all. Though his Awakening look wasn't bad either. (Possibly had certain details that was gone in DAII). So I used a shot from DAII and all along looked back at some Awakening shots for guides on his face. The lighting here is from the large openings in his clinic, so the left side of his face (your right), is much darker.

Hair:
Luckily for Anders, his hair was much more realistic (direction-wise), as in, it was mostly combed backwards, so the geist of it was understandable to me. I did search for some real pictures of long hair to help me along, and I came across this guy called Gabriel Aubry. He had the perfect face shape and hair to help me draw Anders. I made those two locks of Anders' hair dangle down more towards the middle. (Felt it was way too combed towards the side)

Stubble:
I used the same pictures of Gabriel to help me with the stubble. DAII Anders had a clearly looking stubble, so it was easier to recreate it.

Mage Coat:
Geez, his coat was a little nuts. So many really dark areas (I hate to do em', especially since they smudge extremely easy). The feather part of his outfit was interestingly easy to finish.

Anders was an enigma portrait to do to be honest. The first time I sketched his face, it looked like Jackie Chan. -.- I thought it was because I haven't shaded, so I did, and he looked better, but a part of me still didn't like it. So I kept working on the portrait which was why I finished this a lot faster than Hawke or Alistair. There was one point where I really hated it, and then after a while I realised there was nothing wrong with it, it was just a little "Andy Pipkin" in my head that kept saying "I DONT LIKE IT", after I kicked that thought away, my feelings for my portrait of Anders took a better turn.

Any more Dragon Age fan arts coming? Hmmm, I'm actually planning to do one of Isabela or Morrigan already. Though there's potential that if I do one, the other won't get done at all. I'm leaning towards Isabela, but HAVE YOU SEEN HER BANDANA? (The pattern on it is gonna kill me).
