Many many weeks ago I had an amazingly interesting dream. The dream told about a little girl who was so ill that she had had to live her whole life in a hospital inside a small glass room. She had no friends and no one really cared for her. One day she got a new nurse. They quickly became friends and the nurse bought her books. The girl got exited about books and begun to write a story – a fantasy story about a crystal world….

The ironic part is that in my dream my little sister came to me and wanted me to listen a story she had written. (The story of a little sick girl writing a fantasy book.) I really really liked the idea and the story and I was so envious to my little sister that she had come up whit such a marvellous idea. Then I woke up. My first thought was: “That was a really good story, I must ask my sister how it continues.” It took me a moment to realise that in fact it all had be a dream and my little sister had not written the story I have dreamt. I began to smile. The story idea was actually my own!!

I painted this picture because I wanted to practice drawing some humans for a chance. The little girl doesn’t look like the girl in my dream. (She was paler, a little bit older and had less modern clothes.) I also practised painting transparent surfaces in this picture. I’m not fully satisfied whit the picture, but it looks good enough.

I played whit some light effects. The original watercolour painting without the effects can be found here. I like the atmosphere of the Photoshop version, but also the beautiful colours of the original work.

Hope you like it!

I looked at the original version too.
I like this one better though the perception in this photo is quite different from the original one.

In this one, I thought the girl is hold ing something magical that emits light and shines the darkness to explore the cave.

The lighting effect enhances this idea as well because the center is shining and the outer space get darker.

Sometimes, it's good to add some special effect too
Gives different perspective.

PS: your sister is really imaginative in your dream!

I like this picture too expecially becouse that light effect. I usually dislike adding special effects to finishted pictures with computer. It feels like sceating every time.

Yes. I was so envious to her in my dream and really really glad when I found out that the idea was infact my own.

I like the effect which you set in Photoshop. You could have tried to add it with gouache one day... little hint or suggestion, I hope you don't mind...

You are welcome!
The book is written by Mary Stewart. it's a old saga-like historical roman, which consists of 3 books:
1. The Crystal Cave
2. The Hollow Hills
3. The Last Enchantment
( these three books are also known as Merlin's Trilogy by Mary Stewart)
It is my favourite book ever...

Thank you.
I try to fit the style of the picture to the atmosphere of the story I have in my mind.
