Really great painting ^^. It really make me think of the naval painting ou find in musuem. I really love how you draw the waves of this crazy sea. You really feel the water is liquid, and that the frigate are having a hard time going through them. Do you have some arration behind this painting?

Thanks! Not a detailed story, basically the ship in front has taken care of one pirate ship and is slugging it out with the other, all in the teeth of a rising gale and off of a lee shore.

Good enough, it gives some idea on what is actually happening here ^^. I'm almost sad we don't see more canon shooting, though

Now that i think better about it it isn't too exaggerated to think that there would be fires in such a weather because if the fires started on a lower deck (as evidenced by the burning cannon holes) a weather this stormy would prevent people from putting them out effectively and if the fires, left unchecked, are hot enough to be able to burn through the upper deck... then one would indeed be able to see such a situation.
Just imagining this... i'm not sure if it actually makes sense for real.

It's a possible scenario, say if the ship was caught somewhat unawares and still had a galley fire lit, which sparked a fire during the action -- get enough tar, timber, canvas, and rope burning, and even stout winds might not douse it!
