Next installment in my quick charcoal sketch series of a semi Gerard Butler/Michael Crawford/guy in my own head hybrid of Erik,the Phantom of the Opera, with people in a fanfiction I'm currently developing. In my opinion, the character has an anguished, cold, dark, tortured side that loathes humanity, but also a side that is deeply, tragically romantic and even compassionate when given the chance to express itself.

Here he is holding Joan, outgoing older sister of Claire (from my last sketch). Joan is a very plainspoken, strong child, around 9 or 10, with evident anger in her spirit that manifests in her boldness, and is the voice for her little sister, around 6, who has been selectively mute since their parent's brutal murder during a robbery or riot of some sort (I still need to work out the details of the fic). Inspired by the RP character Lexy, (c) , Joan attaches herself somewhat stubbornly to Erik, despite his best efforts otherwise, to the point where she tries to imitate his gestures and idiosyncratic behaviors like a little imprinting duckling ^__^ His affection eventually outweighs his annoyance at this habit, because he knows she does it half out of her own traumatization.

Here we see her ill and him embracing her and trying to comfort her, while someone entering the room catches both their attention at once.

Yes, I am fond of rendering a semi-handsome and semi-young Erik, and I will not apologize for it! I am no purist! XD XD hee I promise to do a traditional Phantom next, deal?
