Description
A few years post-manga-storyline, Akito Sohma, head of the Sohma family, sits in her favorite window sipping stomach-soothing tea, expectant of her first child, a girl, while Kisa Sohma, the youngest formerly cursed member, leans on her powerful cousin's leg and chats with her. It seems that the dormant maternal instincts in Aki are coming out in the weeks preceding the birthdate. (Hey, so, ,this one is sort of for you, since Kisa is your fave. It's also for who didn't laugh at my wacky dream which is related to this image XD)

*Cue the dropped jaws and the AWWW sounds.*

BEFORE YOU COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : Alright, actually, no, Akito HASN'T gotten pregnant by anyone YET in the Fruits Basket/Furuba manga, BUT for individuals who have not yet read Chapter 98, this is obviously a spoiler, as I don't draw male pregnancy art and thus lol it is obvious by her condition in this picture what her ACTUAL gender is: female.

(IT'S CANON, folks. Don't flame me. AKITO *IS* A WOMAN. The creators of the anime were not aware of Natsuki Takaya's plan to reveal her true gender and that is why *in the anime* she is male.)

So the title and concept of this stem from an odd dream I had about Furuba characters, within which several years had passed and Akito and Shigure finally reconciled and were wed.

In short, the dream:
One day Akito went to Hatori in trepidation and embarassment stating that she had been vomiting all week and that her period was late. Beaming, for Ha'ri at least, he calmly stated, after some tests, that nothing was wrong with her, but that she would have to approve an obstetrician from a list that he could provide.
Puzzled, she asked what an obstetrician was.
He grinned and rumbled, "A doctor that pregnant ladies see."
Akito's face went blank and her cheeks glowed pink. Her eyes glittered.
Shrieks of delight and joy erupted from the doorway and Tohru Honda and Momiji Sohma came dashing in, enthusiastically embracing Akito from each side. "Aki-Chan, you're a mom, you're a mom!" Tohru repeatedly squealed.
Trembling slightly, Akito asked, "What will I do?"
Ha'ri's response: "We'll help you."
Akito:" No no! I meant AFTER it's born! How do I make it happy? I want to make it happier than..." Hatori: "Than Ren made you?"
Silence from Akito.
Momiji: "It's still like Ha'ri said, Akito--we'll help you!"
*flash to an hour later, after the news is broken to Shigure. The writer man dog is hopping around on one foot in the garden goofily singing aria-style: "IMMA DADDEEEEEE IMMA DAD-DEEEEEEEEEOOOO!". Lol. *

At this point I woke up and went AWW in the dark of my bedroom, and vowed to draw a couple mangaish panels of the dream and its aftermath.

I am stunned after having surfed through dA that I am not at all the only person to have come up with this idea.

Akito is lifted from the curse and becomes a person of fairly ordinary health after Chapter 131. Therefore, also because of her miraculous turn-around of character into a NICE person, I see this as an entirely plausible and quite rich plot twist--perhaps Akito will be the Sohma "Goddess" to turn around the painful and isolated state of living for the next family member to assume the mantle of Sohma Family Head. In my little world, the next Head is another daughter. Aki does everything NOT to make the hurtful mistakes that her mother made with her.

The theme of this is HOPE and CHANGE.

I also have this drawing in B&W, but I liked the warm maternal feel of the Photoshop colorized version, so I posted this.
