Second and final half of this tale starring my Hetalia OC Gwenllian (Wales). First part andrielisilien.deviantart.com/…
Picking up from where I left off, a handful of French Soldiers had wandered away from the Black Legion in Fishguard, Wales. A local cobbler, Jemima Nicholas, found these soldiers chasing her sheep and chickens to eat on her farm. There are not a lot of details on what happened next except that she pointed her pitchfork at the French and marched them down to the local church. She kept them there in the guard house until the army negotiated for a surrender at the Royal Oak. What she said to them I have no idea (I doubt they spoke the same language) so I made something up. Jemima Nicholas became known as a Welsh Heroine and now has a headstone as a memorial in her honor that you can visit today near Saint Mary’s church. www.fishguardonline.com/Last_I…
There are some suggestions on how this really happened. Maybe the soldiers were too drunk and demoralized (many in the army were criminals from jail) to put up a fight. Maybe her attire gave the appearance of a military uniform (red cloak and tall black hat). Maybe Jemima just had enough fire in her to intimidate anyone. Whatever it was, I respect this lady.
