AndronicusVII — Ranma of Mars 112

Description Just because they know he was out to rescue them, doesn't mean they know he had their best interests at heart, if that makes any sense.  Or to put another way, maybe he was a kidnapper from a rival brothel? So there needs to be some kind of trust building here.

Also, this is a bit of a scene jump.  It assumes the girls rented the absolutely cheapest place they could find to bunker down and regroup.

Given Akane's lack of memories, this means she can improve her cooking without taking a blow to her ego.

Also, neither Akane or Ukyo have their memories of feeling obligated or compelled to be with Ranma, enabling their bond with him to evolve naturally. Also, there's no way in Hell the brothel's programming didn't include acceptance of bigamy.

Are they okay with the whole harem thing?  Yes of course.  Will there be a design to be the "first" in the harem.  Oh yes.  Fights for pecking order.

Would paying customers want their harem to fight among themselves?

Real world harems were a hot bed of rivalry and politics.  Just didn't let the man see it.

Indeed, this is a step in the right direction for Team Akane. For Ranma, it's first step towards getting his friends back and earning their trust. It's also a big step for the girls. As we've seen with their fight with the alien thugs before, Akane and Ukyo are gradually starting to rediscover various aspects of their past lives. And cooking will allow them to further explore their capabilities before they can move on to the next stage of their plan: finding work!

Hopefully they will leave behind some of their former self-image and confidence issues... but probably not.

At least with no memory of their rivalry, their friendship has had time to evolve in its own direction. Ironically, this is likely GOOD FOR THEM!

The thing with Akane and Ukyo, is that when not fighting over Ranma they actually got along fairly well.

Jimbodeek In reply to alexwarlorn [2018-11-28 07:04:37 +0000 UTC]

Not only that, but Akane should take this as an opportunity to improve her cooking skills. Maybe Ukyo could teach her a few things once she's gotten the hang of it herself.

And you're right. Since the girls don't remember anything of their past with Ranma on Earth, Ranma's essentially been given a clean slate and can start anew in his relationship with Akane, with his first step being gaining her trust.

Also perhaps Ranma is smarter then I realized and actually took into account "oh yeah if they don't have their memories of what are connections are, telling them who I am regardless of the situation would sound TOTALLY  INSANE AND WOULD PROBABLY GET ME BEAT UP AGAIN! I should do something else" since yeah there's proof that Ranma knows them but not only do they have obviously different memories and don't recall him at all but it's hard to exactly know what to synch up.  Of course if there's proof that there is a connection that in no way he has just been secretly stalking them or something like that and actually does know them there's justification for that.  And I do like how we're jumping into a "Ranma finding a way to really talk with them" which yeah will lead to some jokes but... eh we could use some after a longer extended fight scene and again there is a point to it so I'm fine with that.

AndronicusVII In reply to DianaGohan [2018-12-04 20:28:47 +0000 UTC]

You're absolutely right.  There is a difference between proving an existing connection... and proving they should trust you.  However, you've got to start SOMEWHERE

DianaGohan In reply to AndronicusVII [2018-12-04 22:04:25 +0000 UTC]

I do have to wonder where this exactly will lead since without their memories though this tells the girls this Ranma knows something about them how much are they exactly going to be willing to believe? Especially since again Ranma's goal is still to get all of them back home which... I'm sure Akane and Ukyo don't want to fully leave the others behind but how willing would they be to get back in (thinking they're back at the now run by Shampoo slave auction site) or get back memories they have no idea about.  Guess that will be the fun once we get to 114 and that starts playing out more.

AndronicusVII In reply to DianaGohan [2018-12-05 00:01:39 +0000 UTC]

It is a good question.  Will the girls even want to go back, the way their memories are.  I can tell you this much right now.  Ranma feels a lot of responsibility.  He wants to get all five girls back and the two men he came with.  Even Ranko!  We'll see if his opinion changes.

DianaGohan In reply to AndronicusVII [2018-12-05 02:59:21 +0000 UTC]

Well I also assume that's because he not only has friends and family still on earth he wants to/feels obligated to get back to with them on it but also at this point doesn't really see any benefits to staying on Mars long term.  That could change but at the moment I see him wanting to push to get everyone together but circumstances perhaps making him see things differently but that still taking awhile to set up.

AndronicusVII In reply to DianaGohan [2018-12-19 03:31:13 +0000 UTC]

All those points are very true.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Jimbodeek In reply to DianaGohan [2018-11-27 02:24:51 +0000 UTC]

You're right about that. Ranma knows he can't just straight-up tell the girls why he knows them since he knows what they're capable of even without their memories. Instead, Ranma's decided to take a slow and steady approach to the situation, gradually reintroducing the girls to aspects of their old personalities. In this case, he's setting them up to be reintroduced to their cooking skills. For Ukyo, cooking shouldn't be much of a problem, given that her past life saw her run a restaurant. Akane, on the other hand, might want to consider taking lessons from Ukyo once she's gotten the hang of cooking again.

DianaGohan In reply to Jimbodeek [2018-11-27 03:20:24 +0000 UTC]

Well capable or not he kind of needs to have them on his side if he not only wants to get off the planet but get everyone else back since pretty sure Ranma wouldn't want to leave Mars until the entire gang's together.  And if they no longer have those memories due to the alternation he needs to find some other way to appease to them thus showing off "hey I know you in a way I can proof beyond a shadow of a doubt" is good.  Honestly thinking about it this seems like the way in the actual series of Ranma such a thing would be handled.  Again not that much of a fan but based on what I know of Ranma this seems like the part of this particular story that will most follow the actual manga's style the most.

Indeed. Ranma has to help the girls remember parts of their past lives, and the girls have to help Ranma survive so he can help them remember.

Having the girls start cooking is a step in the right direction, especially for Ukyo. Ukyo shouldn't have that much trouble learning how to cook, especially if given that her muscle memory allowed her to fight alongisde Akane and fend off those alien thugs. Akane, on the other hand, might have a harder time, given that her cooking isn't exactly on par with Ukyo's.

Hopefully, Ranma should survive Akane's cooking so they can plan their next move. They better start looking for career opportunities soon...

I did like that Mrs. Saotome did finally teach her to boil water correctly.

And so begins Ranma's quest to help the girls remember.

I don't blame Ranma for thinking he's gonna regret this later. After all, Akane was quite terrible at cooking back on Earth. However, the brainwashing has essentially given Akane a clean slate. So she could probably improve her cooking skills with Ukyo teaching her.

Hopefully, Ranma can help the girls remember enough so they can get started on their Martian careers!

On one hand, Ranma does like Akane's curry - once it's had time to ripen. But somehow I don't think he's going to get that lucky.

Fortunately the girls know a good doctor. He is going to need one soon.
