Description

THE MECHANICAL MASQUERADE

WHEN: This weekend, Saturday. Nov 6th.

WHERE: The Academy Theatre, 119 Center Street, Avondale Estates, GA, United States, 30002

I'll be peddling my leather wares at this one day event. This will be my first ever masquerade ball AND first ever steampunk themed event! I'm excited to see the no doubt beautiful costumes in attendance and to learn more about this mysterious thing called Steampunk.

I'm working up to the deadline on this one! The workbench is full of Centurion and Keeper of Secrets style masks in various metal finishes and stages of completion. I haven't been able to do anything spectucularly mixed media yet, much to my chagrin (metal is expensive dangit!) My fave has to be the oxidized bronze one top-right.

I'll be making small things between now and then. Probably eyepatches and mini mask keychains. We'll see what happens! After all, I still haven't figured out what to wear!

Hope to see some of you there! Let me know if you have a particular style/finish you'd like to see and I'll see what I can bring for you.

Wow a wonderful collection! I am just starting to learn about working with leather, so I was wondering how you managed that amazing metallic effect? Is it all in the paint or is a more complicated process?

Oh, and I love the key holes on a few of the masks, great idea!

The metallic effect is really just metallic acrylic paint buffed over leather dye. I did a tutorial on it here: [link]

And thanks! I'm a sucker for keys and keyholes. They're just inspiring
