Description I figured I'd put this up as a collage instead of spamming everyone with too many WIP pictures.

Step 1: Create heart shape that looks kinda like a balloon? O_o
Step 2: Take forever winging design of red part
Step 3: Spikes!
Step 4: Mitosis to produce more multi-colored spikes! (I wish)
Step 5: Needle felt details and survive multiple stab wounds

So I've been working on the mask because I REALLY wanted to. I think the spikes are my favorite part right now I wanted to create a color gradient and wasn't sure how to for the longest time. I was considering using needle felting but I wanted to do more actual crocheting and save the needle felting for the details. I ended up experimenting a little and I'm pretty happy with the results.. If you can't tell from one of the pictures, I ended up crocheting with 2 strands of yarn and crochet thread at the same time I'm amazed that my fingertips aren't covered in blisters. I still have a long ways to go, but it's getting there!

Also, I apologize for the poor-quality photos. I promise to take better ones when it's all done!

Which technique have you used when you were making the mask's eyes? How did you make them?

These are exquisite, but you already knew that.Β Β I'm the maker of a fairly accurate Happy Mask Salesman cosplay, and your mask is spot on. All of it's perfect really. If I lose my legs I'm totally going to copy your design and make one for myself. Not that I use my legs much anyway. Sorry that I don't have any of my costume pics up tho. I just posted my first art today.

Keep on being awesome!

May I ask, how did you make de red part? Is it one piece or more pieces together? And where did you start? Thanks!Β

I know you said that there isn't a pattern for the skull kid but I was wondering if you could possibly write up your pattern for the purple heart balloon shape that forms theΒ base of the mask. I've been desperately trying to recreate it(and falling flat)Β so that I can make the mask to hang upon my wall. I'm sure I could improvise the rest but it's the base that's getting me. If you don't want to then I understand but I would be eternally grateful if you could.

The mask itself is double-layered. Β I worked in rounds and basically started making a half-sphere, except I flattened it out to make sort of a semi-circle. Β I fastened off one side first, then started on the second semi-circle. Β When they were about the same size, I continued to crochet along the first semi-circle I made, which gives it the continuous look. Β I then decreased slowly each round so that it would taper at the tip to make a heart shape. Β I hope that makes sense! Β I don't know if I can go back and write a pattern since I would have to re-make it and I'm so busy right now! Β Sorry about that!

It's alright. I couldn't tell that it was double layered from the picture and I'm glad you mentioned that. I had thought you came up with a single layered design and that was what I was trying to replicate. Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post.

You could use this pattern: to make the heart you make a front and back so you could just make the front!

That is a very nice pattern but since I want to make one (possibly two as my fiancΓ© might want one as well) to hang upon a wall I need a pattern that is half a heart so that the backside is empty. I will however probably make these hearts as well at some point so thank you for the pattern link anyways. ^^

Sorry, I don't have a pattern for this Β He got too complicated so I wasn't able to write one out. Β I only have a few WIP pictures posted that you can use as a guide if you'd like.

Oh my god, i can't wait for the endresult! >3<

I think the color gradient looks very good^^ Your black and white borders at the mask looks so clean, did you sew the yarn on the mask or chrochet it? x3

Somehow it's ironic the mask was a heart at the beginning x3Β°

This mask is just aaaaaaaaaamazing! Just like your skull kid! β™₯

Thanks so much!! I can't wait to finish either And I'm glad you like my attempt at a color gradient ^^

The black and white borders are actually needle-felted on. I can't embroider to save my life And I agree; I always thought it was interesting that Majora's mask was a heart shape O_o?

I used a combination of Red Heart Super Saver and Vanna's Choice, depending on the colors I needed, and crochet thread. And thanks! I really don't have any sewing experience. I just kinda figured out the method I liked best over time with trial and error So I'm glad you think it looks alright!

MCalhen In reply to aphid777 [2013-05-10 01:34:37 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, nice! x3

And I didn't mean the sewing, I was talking about the crocheting itself. x3 But the sewing everything together looks great too. C: Your amigurumi always has such a neat, clean look about it, if that makes sense? C:

Oh! I must be out of it haha I guess that just happens when you crochet too much @_@ I'm also a stickler on counting and symmetry so maybe that somehow helps?
