Description More Eastern Front stuff.
The Turan 2 was a Hungarian medium Tank derived from Czech design. It itself was a fairly decent tank, but it was not adequate to fight Soviet forces in 1943 and 1944. The most fun I had with this drawing was studying the firearms. We all know of your Kar98s, your Type-100s, your Thompsons, but looking at the Hungarian firearms like the Danuvia 43M was a breath of fresh air to WW2's arsenal. Also, about the tank itself, coming up with the sketch was pretty confusing. The photos that exist arent much to work with, and many model illustrations contradict eachother. But thats to be expected with a oddball tank, especially one that hasnt received much attention and only has 1 surviving example left in the world.(At the Kubinka Tank museum). Also the sources go back and forth, some say 234 were built while others say well over 400 were made. Some sources say the Turan 1 (and eventually turan 2) were in action from 1942, others say they didnt see use until 1944. If it was in use in 1942 it wouldn't had been outdated by then. Lastly is the tank that should have been, the Turan III! With increased armor and a long barrell gun! It would have basically been a panzer IV. This originally was the Turan variant I thought of drawing, but since it never saw any combat and there are no authentic camo schemes for it I decided to save it for later when I draw other tanks that never saw combat like the Australian Sentinel, P40 Bis and Canadian Ram.

Have some minor problems with the uniforms and the issue that the soldier on the right has an Italian Beretta Model 38 (not a single source or photo has confirmed that the Hungarians used that SMG during WW2 but it's still illustrated in a lot of art works). But otherwise it's really cool and well made. Also, you can freely use my imgur gallery CapturedJoe already posted for your other Hungarian tank projects. hebime.imgur.com/

For uniforms or for tanks? As for tanks you won't find a better one than my Imgur gallery (not saying for showing off) because I collected all those photos from a bunch of different sites and books. As for uniforms I can show you a hundred more pictures if you want, just contact me in PM if you need any advice.

I can give you an advice about unit insignias too like the one you used for this Turán II. What you used is the Royal Hungarian 1st Cavalry Division's (semicircle with dot, called "horseshoe") 1st Cavalry Tank Battalion's (half-filled parallelogram) insignia. That divison had only a battalion of tanks which consisted 22 Turán II, 37 Turán I, 2 Toldi IIA (Toldi with 40 mm tank gun) and 3 Toldi I.

Btw, I just noticed that you got the color of the coat of arms on the frontal armor plate wrong. It's red-white-green from top to bottom and the edges go left to to right upwards.

Thanks, my goal is to get as much historical accuracy as possible while still keeping a cartoony look. Ill be hitting you up asking for some help one certain tanks, especially ones without much documentation and have photos with contradictory markings.  I have a toldi 2 sketch but it is unmarked and colored, while ive found more photos of it than the Turan 1 and 2, im still not sure what to do with it.

Splendid. Nothing like seeing our meagre armed forces every once in a while. Looks real nice and I also like the additional hungarian soldiers around the tank.

Capital indeed.

Yeah man, The hungarian tank tree as a whole is a breath of fresh air for WW2! I've also been researching Romanian and Finnish vehicles, Romania has a fun looking tankette called the "R-1"

Very nice, it looks very much like a typical Turán!

A great source for historical photographs of Turán tanks: imgur.com/a/jsgK7

In total, over 400 Turán tanks were built, of which 285 or 289 (the sources aren't clear on that) were Turán Is and 139 were Turán IIs. At least 50 Turán Is were converted to Turán IIs by swapping the turret and gun, since the hulls were identical apart from the driver's hatch. The Turán III only added some more armor to the front of the hull besides its new turret and gun.

The Hungarian army received its first Turáns only in 1943, but they saw action for the first time in 1944. On occasion they did quite well against Soviet tanks, mostly due to the Hungarian tankers' bravery and skill (which greatly impressed the Germans, in particular Field Marshal Model who gave them a bunch of German tanks, amongst which 10 or 11 Tiger Is and 5 Panthers). Apparently the Turán IIs  were significantly more effective in combat than the Turán Is, but I like the latter a bit more. It's a very "underdog" kind of tank.

My Dad was trained on the Turán in 1942-3. Sadly, as you say, it was not up to fighting the T-34 or event the Soviet Shermans.

Amazing! And yeah I feel the Turan was more of a Early WW2/ late 30s tank. It just wasnt enough after that

Unfortunately for Hungary, it was under a total arms embargo from 1920 to 1938. After that, they tried to catch up, but there was no way. Funnily enough, the Germans wouldn't sell their Axis allies even licences to build. Around 1940 or '41, the Hungarians asked for the Pzkw IV licence. No way! The Romanians also asked for licences for various German kit, but were told "no". That was silly of them!

the US definitely had better policies towards its allies than Germany, The US made many tanks, made them cheap, and gave them to everyone with a pulse!

The Hungarian officer on the far left seems way too happy.

Hungarian soldier: "ya know, if you recite the communist manefesto at Stalingrad, you get a trip to the new amusement park."
Hungarian officer: "ooh. What's the park called?"
Hungarian soldier: "gulag world."
Hungarian officer: C:
