Description It's D-Day's anniversay! The start of one of the most famous military campaigns in modern history. I would have gotten this out earlier if I didnt have a lot of last minute stuff come out. Our first tank will be the Stug 3. It was one of the deadliest tanks of the war. It had a low profile, reliable speed, and its main gun could knock out just about anything that got infront of it.
I often hear people say that the German Army in France was inept, and thats clearly the only reason why they got trapped in the Falaise pocket.Everyone with a brain knows this isnt true. If anything, the German Army in France was the last army you would want to fight. It made excellent use of the terrain and what supplies it could get, putting up an extremely stubborn defense while the Allies had nearly complete control of the skies, able to bomb some sectors with impunity. Anyway hopefully I can have all the drawings out before the end of the month. Ill probably make the Sherman next

oh, and the lineart is on instagram - www.instagram.com/picture_panz…

They aren't stupid, for sure. But I don't think they are the best tacticians ever concieved like the mustache twirling villains people think of them as. The Blitkrieg was a good strategy for an unprepared nation.

France was unprepared?

IsobeTamiyo In reply to bastler [2018-07-03 04:39:13 +0000 UTC]

Unprepared for a modern war. Their strategy was to win a war with little effort. The Maginot line was what they relied on. The Germans got around it through a patch of land deemed impossible to traverse for Panzers, pushing around the defenses. The French panicked and threw everything up North, expecting a push from there too. But nothing. Germany then circled the troops, cut off France from most of the military, and took Paris, the country capitulating very quickly after war was declared. They put up less than a fight than Poland in terms of strategy. If it weren't for Belgium, Amsterdam, and Luxembourg, France would have been the second fastest captured country in WWII.

Indeed, in a war where air superiority meant the difference between victory and defeat, the Axis forces all around the globe has put up some incredible last stands.

Anyhow this looks awesome, the rolling bunker.

Yeah, people dont really see just how much of a disadvantage the axis powers had with logistics and location. In alot of photos ive seen of WW2 graves of German soldiers, It always seems that most of the lads died within the last two years of the war, When Violence and intensity on both the West and Eastern front were arguably at their highest

They would have gotten to the beaches sooner if it wasn't for those pesky things known as roads, rail lines and phone cables being destroyed! Also, The Führer needed his nap.

yeah the coordinated events leading up to the invasion were pretty hectic. Im impressed that the british were even able to pull together the "French resistance"

WW2 as a whole tbh

Btw what's the difference between a stug iii j and a stug 4?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arjay-the-Lionheart In reply to blackbird545 [2018-06-07 03:42:22 +0000 UTC]

thanks! Basically the 3 is built on a Panzer 3 base and the other is built on a panzer IV base. There were alot more Stug ivs in normandy than 3s, I should have made this one on a PZ4 chasis

blackbird545 In reply to Arjay-the-Lionheart [2018-06-07 04:09:19 +0000 UTC]

Ohh thx for the info mate.

When i first saw this i tought of the stug 4 because of its gun muzzle/shell thing actually.

Arjay-the-Lionheart In reply to blackbird545 [2018-06-07 04:54:45 +0000 UTC]

i went ahead and renamed the drawing to stug 4, while i drew it with a PZ 3 chasis in mind it still looks too much like a IV for me to call it a 3, so my bad on that bro

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

CaptainIdle In reply to Arjay-the-Lionheart [2018-06-07 06:05:03 +0000 UTC]

Was no need to rename it, you drew StuG.III actually. Compare them.

StuG.III has all the superstructure front lined up. StuG.IV has the separate driver's compartment, since base Pz.IV is larger than Pz.III and driver is positioned much more further forward.

But oh well. Great work no matter how you name it.

when i woke up this morning i looked at the sketch and linear, that IS a 3, i dont know what i was thinking.then again it was midnight when i put this up

TChenArt In reply to Arjay-the-Lionheart [2018-06-07 15:53:54 +0000 UTC]

y'know what would rile up more people?

calling this a tank (which you did)

that all depends of course on how it's used, but i'm going with calling this an assault gun or self-propelled gun as that is the designation given by the Germans at the time.

but calling it a tank is simply easier since if you have to define what a tank is for its role it would be, in the words of Nicholas Moran, to shoot at something the infantry is objecting to shooting at.
