Description I took several pictures, from different vantage points, of this scene in a modern city in China.

The old ramshackle building remained in the midst of much newer construction. Even though it appears at first to be derelict, you can see clothes hanging in it and other signs that people still occupy it in some manner.

Chonqing is an enormous city with nearly 30 million people living there. Much of it is quite built up, but some vestiges of the older China still exist in pockets.

The couple on the balcony are an important part of this photo. If they weren't there, I wouldn't have bothered editing it.

Great shot - I've been there before and have friends there now. China is an amazing place - I have a few shots in my gallery too. Great work. Great capture.

Thanks. Yes, China is amazing. I lived there for nearly 5 years, even started my DA account from there.

Wow really - I go there every year on business - well work really - I speak at conferences and help in hospitals. It is an amazing place. Longest I've been there is 3 weeks, although I may be moving there in the future depending on how things go at work. Best wishes for 2013!

I was a teacher there. Now I teach in Thailand. Also taught in Vietnam. Anyway, I checked out your gallery and commented on some of the China photos… You've got serious photo-manip skills.

thanks mate. Yeah my photography is fairly basic (my wife is 10000 times better than me) but I do enjoy PS6!

Eric,

Incredible photo. Makes me feel queasy, the thought of walking around the upper floors of that building. Looks like it is made from matchwood.

Toni.

Oh, thanks Toni! Yeah, people were actually living in there, at least in the places that hadn't already fallen apart. You can see laundry hanging, and whatnot. It was strange to see it next to really a lot of modern development in a giant city.

Thanks. I live in China, and have traveled quite a bit here, but never saw quite a more jarring combination of old and new as this.

Woah great contrast of old and new. Hope the old one will not collapse, for the sake of the people who lives there.

Thanks for "getting" it. I'm surprised it hadn't been demolished by the time I took the photo.
