Description We toured the American Southwestern National parks and so you will be seeing a lot of this magnificent landscape from me in the days to come. It is just impossible to capture the scope and grandeur of these geological wonders, but I tried. I took about 2,000 photos over 10 days so it will take awhile to cull through and edit the best ones. This is the Grand Canyon from Bright Angel Point n the North Rim. These are the true colors, I haven't touched them. There was a thunderstorm that day which helped to bring out the colors in the rocks.

love the layers in these rocks. you can really see where the river used to run and the glacier after that millions of years ago

Thanks, Johnny! Yes, it's geological heaven, to say the least. Will try get some more shots up so you can really see that vastness of the scale of things. A mile down and about 10 miles wide. You can't see the river in very many places although it is certainly down there--although not in this particular section--this is just a small side canyon rift. Look to the furtheest pale mesa in the background near the horizon of the photo--that's the other side of the Grand Canyon at this point.Β

Yes a colleague in work said its vastness is impressive My friend might talk me into going to Vegas (not my thing) but if I go then I might fuck off to here as well

I concur, Vegas is definitely not my thing either, but it's the closest launching place for visiting some of the these fab other places that you can get a commercial flight to. (now THAT was a horrible sentence!) Otherwise it is Flagstaff to the South or Salt Lake City to the north. If you do decide to go, let me know before you book and I can give you a few useful tips. But you will definitely need to rent a car!

Oh nooooooooooooooo! :-P That's helluva long way to go for a stag party and it is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive once you get there! It used to be that food was cheap in the casinos because they wanted people to stay and gamble all day and all night, but that has changed drastically! Now Β the big casinos are all called "resorts" and believe me, they charge prices that reflect that. At first the rooms look cheap, but then once you add on the "resort fee" (30 bucks for a newspaper and free wifi access per night? seriously? then extra for parking). Then if you want to get anywhere on the strip, it's 5 bucks per ride on the monorail or one very long hot walk up and down over the pedestrian bridges. breakfast for 4 was $70. I nearly died. and then there's the tip (15 - 20 %) plus the tax. Can't remember what it is in Nevada but it's around 12%. In Utah it 14%! So you have to add about 35% onto your food bill every time you sit down to eat. The shows are so expensive--we managed something for $75 each (x4!) becuase we were staying in the hotel where the show was playing. But the other shows that we really wanted to see were running about $150 and up. Try sharing some of this info with your friend and it will make Mallorca or Ibiza look like Paradise in terms of value for money. I mean there's always Paris and the Moulin Rouge--one could have a great stag party night there. Oh, and don't forget the jet-lag. There's a 8-9 hour time difference (Depending on where you are and if you are on or off a Navajo Indian reservation!!). It's a week later and the entire family is still suffering from it. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

So they add tax on top of the price and THEN the tip? Fucking harsh. I can see how that shit would start to add up. The British Pound is so weak against the dollar these days too so it would be kinda expensive If I end up going I'll defo give you a shout cos you seem like quite the expert!

TBH, I was pretty bummed about it. Every time I sat down to eat, I felt like I was being ripped off. NOT a fun way to have a party!

Ha...try any of the Scandinavian countries! It starts earlier than that...you see a restaurant you like the look of, approach it to read the menu, read said menu and then be like...erm....let's try somewhere cheaper....if that exists!?

Been there done that--we ended up eating out of the 7/11 convenience stores whenever possible. Oh and we found one pizza/kebab place that didn't break the bank!

And more to come--the space, the distance, the immensity is hard to comprehend without visiting. I am used to it and know what to expect, but it was all a new experience for the rest of the family.Β

Thanks, Brett. I just posted three more! It was an amazing trip. Will do a journal when I get the chance. But there are so many photos (I took about 2,000 on this trip) to cull through and edit. You and Darlene HAVE to get down there some time, you can drive. But go in the Spring or Autumn if you can, or at least early June. It was so hot, which I knew it would be. So we toughed this bit out, but stuck to the higher elevations whenever possible. Cedar Breaks is over 10,000 ft. high, And Bryce Canyon and Zion as well as the North Rim were all quite bearable, even comfortable. But the desert floor, that was scorching and then some.
